Dialogue boxes feezing

I have Vista installed on a new laptop - it has never had XP.

The issue I have is that dialogue boxes that appear as the normal part of a
program that will sometimes not respond to the answer I give, most times will
freeze and will not accept the answer at all (example: email sender wants a
receipt) and essentially this freezes the program - the only way to remove
the box is to go to the Task Manager and close down the program. Usually I
do this five times and then have to reboot - sometimes I can use the cursor
to move the box and this seems to fix it - but 99% not. Even rebooting will
not fix it. Soemtimes I can go for days with no problems and then it hits
again. This mornong for instance all boxes froze and I reboooted three times
- and for the last hour it has been ok. I used diagnostics soemtimes but
this never shos anything.

What the heck is happening - it is extremely time wasting, and totaly
infuriating. It did not happen immediately on using, just developed. I use
Norton.

You'll have better luck asking a question such as yours in a Windows group,
rather then in this .NET programming group:

To find the group you need:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities...D-2224A4FEB3EA

Then open your language in the TreeView on the left, scroll down to
"Windows", open and scroll down to "Vista"
and look for an appropriate group there.

Hope you find the answers you need.

When you post again, be sure to give the specifications of the laptop
(processor, memory, hard drive speed, etc.). I've run into several
situations where students were sold laptops with Vista that never should
have had Vista installed, and one situation where the laptop sold was
clearly not operating correctly.
Bare minimum hardware configurations and Vista are not a happy combination.

Does PHP have the feature to display a text or dialogue box over a text link (similar to javascript's 'onmouseover'). Ideally, I would like a simple message when the mouse is over the link displaying a brief description of the link. However, not like javascript's alert() function which is quite annoying, don't want users to have to close pop-up windows or click OK everytime. Thankyou. tg.

When JavaScript writes out a dialogue box (like when confirm() is called) the header or title of that dialogue box shows up as "JavaScript Application"... Can this title be changed so that maybe you could stick the name of your application in it?

Hi, Any help with this would be really appreciated! I'm trying to download a file from a remote server. The access permissions is okay but the problem I'm facing is that the file is getting downloaded before the Save As dialogue appears. As we will be downloading some large files, it's unpractical to have this. So far the code I have to download the file is

My dialogue form (sometimes partly, sometimes as a whole) remains visible during a fairly long processing job. The dialogue asks the user to enter some data for the job to follow, and after OK, should disappear and the processing job (Sub CreateHTML()) starts, while showing a progress bar in the main form. The problem is that the dialogue form stays visible and does not close during execution of the job. It closes after the job is...

Hey. I need help with a certain problem I'm facing in VB6. I need to display the contents of multiple items in a listview. The situation is this : Everytime i double-click on an item in a listview, a form containing a richtextbox or a dynamically created dialogue box should display the contents of the file. The problem is that i'm not able to view multiple files at the same time. So, is it possible to display a single form containing a...

When clicking on a link, the relevant dialogue box appears, but sometimes for only a fraction of a second and then disappears. I then have to click on the relevant icon in the task bar and if I am quick enough in bringing the cursor and clicking it in the box when it reappears, it will stay put. If not then it disappears back down to the task bar. It never seems to occur when the page is full screen but it also sometimes happens when...

Hi, Okay, so I am in the mood to try this: Inform the user about what modules the app requires in a graphical dialogue that can vary depending on what the system already has installed. (It will fail-to output on cli) I am running Kubuntu and I seem to have 'kdialog' installed by default (not sure if it came as stock.) What other 'stock' systems are there out there in the wild? Ubuntu? Suse? Fedora? Others?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
