WCF load known types at runtime from outside assemblies

Hi all.

My WCF service accepts a base interface type I call 'IGenericReques t' as a
*parameter*. I have been able to accomplish this using
NetDataContract Serializer. But then it gets sticky because the client will
actually be sending in an object of some other class that implements
'IGenericReques t.' Normally this is easily conquered by adding a known
type, but...

The hangup is the derived type will be totally unknown to the WCF
service/host at *compile* time. Instead, the derived types will be known
after service startup only when it loads a series of 'plugin' assemblies
using .LoadFrom (the client will OTC know the types a compile time).

Is there a way to add those known types at runtime when they are NOT known
at compile time so that WCF can serialize those parameters successfully?
I've read a lot of info about adding known types at compile time in config,
through attributes, but nothing if I don't actually know the types in
advance during compile on the server side.

Many thanks!

Chris B.

Hi All, We have an automated build and test environment using NAnt and Nunit. Some of our assemblies are being strong named by modifying the AssemblyInfo.cs and having csc compile it. Some of these strong named assemblies are being dynamically loaded into the runtime. We store the metadata information about the strong named assemblies in a config file. Metadata in the config file looks like this:

Hello, I have a web method that serializes a class that includes among its public fields a System.Object field to which, at runtime, I assign instances of various different classes. When XmlSerializer tries serializing this public field's real content I get a "The type namespace.classname was not expected. Use the XmlInclude or SoapInclude attribute to specify types that are not known statically.". I suppose this is due to the fact that...

I am trying to use reflection to load an assembly and one of my assemblies throws the following error: One or more of the types in the assembly unable to load Is there anyway to find out what type or types are unable to load? The assembly happens to be in VB.Net instead of all my other assemblies which are in csharp.

I have a page that uses an in-place editable DataGrid that supports sorting and paging. EnableViewState is turned ON. At the top of the page are several search fields that allow the user to filter the results in the grid. Say you filter the grid for records that have a certain condition set to "NO" (in this case a checkbox). In this scenario the search returns one result. If I then check the checkbox ("YES") and save it, I now get my message...

I've built a few webservices locally that work just fine. Deployed them to a server and I get the following exception. This exception happens on even the most basic webmethod call. Hitting the webservice without calling a webmethod brings up the WSDL and such as I would expect, only when I make an actual call does this happen. Any ideas? System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type...

We have an issue with load time in several installations of our application. We've located the information regarding KB 936707 and ensured that the application config file contains the runtime setting of <generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false"/> but the application still takes over 2 minutes to load. When we disconnect the PC from the network (internet) then the application loads in about 5 seconds. We've ensured the .net 2.0...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
