I am quite serious or I wouldn't have asked. When I was in grade school 40
years ago, it was correct to capitalize them on the basis that "The Pearson
Family" was considered one unit. Perhaps someone serious minded and
knowledgeable will provide feedback.

It's a perfectly good question, but you are in the wrong newsgroup.
This newsgroup concerns computer programming. You should search for a
newsgroup that concerns English grammar.

When JavaScript writes out a dialogue box (like when confirm() is called) the header or title of that dialogue box shows up as "JavaScript Application"... Can this title be changed so that maybe you could stick the name of your application in it?

I recently noticed the stylesheet link in an html page had the href set to a PHP script, as in: <LINK REL="stylesheet" href="some_css.php" type="text/css"> Presumably the file being referenced was actually an executable PHP script and not a css file that happened to have a .php extension. Based on that assumption, I tried the same thing with a Perl script (the webserver being tested happens to have mod_perl installed but not mod_php),...

In Harbison and Steele's text (fourth edition, p.111) it is stated, The C language does not specify the range of integers that the integral types will represent, except ot say that type int may not be smaller than short and long may not be smaller than int. They go on to say, Many implementations represent characters in 8 bits, type short in

The "toupper" function takes an int as an argument. That's not too irrational given that a character literal is of type "int" in C. (Although why it isn't of type "char" escapes me... ) The "toupper" function imposes a further constrait in that the value passed to it must be representable as a unsigned char. (If C does not require all character values to be positive, then again, this constrait too escapes me... ) Let's say we have the...

I was 'playing' with rollover buttons in CSS, using an image background. Works beautifully ... until you click on the button. The 'visited' state stops the rollover effect. Can someone, with more experience than I have, suggest a solution? I'm including my code below: ------------------------------------------------------------- <style type="text/css" media="screen"> <!-- .rolloverbutton, a.rolloverbutton:visited {

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
