We have a particular software project where a minority of the
function calls are taking up a majority of the cpu time.
(they do a lot of geometric, trig and other functions related
to vectors corresponding to tracks in 3d space)
We think there's not much more that can be done to speed
these functions up on the computer we have (or can have).
The question is, aren't there available now hardware cards
that you can load with particular...

Hi,
I read a lot about DB2 INSERT performance here. I have a nice story as
well.
The thing is, I work on 2 installations of DB2 (on completely different
locations) which run on different (but same generation) hardware.
Benchmarking the disk throughput and CPU basically amounts to the same
figures (+/- 10%).

WE had a Crystal 8 WebApp using vs 2002 which we upgraded to VS2003. I also
have Crystal 9 pro on my development machine. The web app runs fine on my
dev machine but am having problems deploying. I created the websetup and
built the MSI, have the bundled version. Copied to webserver and ran
Websetup.msi. Said I had to remove old version, which I did, then reran
WebSetup.msi and keeps giving me this error. "The installer was interrupted...

Hello,
I'm trying to get this script working. Bascially, it gets a list of
computers from AD, then loops through them to gather hardware informatino
(which it writes to a text file). It runs fine for the first computer, echos
its name then runs the WMI component.
The problem is that after if echos the second computer name it it gets to
line 43 and dies with an error. I'm really new to VB scripting, so I was
hoping someone here could...

Hello,
I'm having some problems installing Visual Studio 2005.
I'll briefly explain what's the history of the problem here.
First I installed VS 2005 beta 2.
I uninstalled it later via the Windows Uninstall Tool you can download.
Then I installed Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition ENU. This was a trial
version for 180 days.

Is there any way to 'download' a control that could access hardware on
a PC? Reason is that I am considering retooling a client-server app of
ours over to ASP.NET (VB.NET). However, currently that app has options
that 'talk' over the serial port to a piece of hardware, controlling it
and getting information to/from it. The ASP.NET app would need to do
the same think.
Previously, in VB6, I believe one could do something like this by...

I'm working on a friend's box, Fedora Core 6. It has PHP 5.1.6.
I need to install mcrypt into it, and the only way I can find to do it
is from source then recompile PHP. So I did all that, and got the
latest PHP, 5.2.5.
The ./configure finally went through OK. Make and make install. Then I
restarted Apache...
but the phpinfo() shows no change. It's still using 5.1.6.
When I run "php -v" from command line I get a huge error I'll include...

Hi
I am using SerialPort component to send raw binary files to a remote device
with RTS/CTS handshaking - the remote device has a small receive buffer and
is slow so needs to be hardware flow controlled to prevent the PC sending
too much data per second. Here is my attempt at setting the hardware
handshake operation:
serialPort1->Handshake = System::IO::Ports::Handshake::RequestToSend;
serialPort1->RtsEnable = true;

We have a problem, and as I am not a driver programmer, or even a Windows
Applications programmer, I don’t even know how to start. Any help you can give
will be appreciated.
This involves the Dell Latitude XT laptop. This computer has an N-Trig
touchscreen digitizer. I am skipping the analysis of the problem and getting
right to basics. The touchscreen is hardwired to the USB bus. When the
computer is booted, anything using a...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
