Can't create Strong Named Assemblies

I just cannot create a strongly named MC++ assembly. I always get an error

Error 1 fatal error LNK1256: ALINK operation failed (80090007) : Bad Version
of provider.

There's no help anywhere. I'm using a pfx file that works fine with all my
C# assemblies. Does anyone have any clue how to fix this?

Can anyone think of a reason why a 3rd party vendor writing .NET components would NOT strong name their assemblies? What harm does adding a strong-name to assembly present - I would think none whatsoever. Strong-naming the assembly should benefit the end user just in case he/she wants to reference the assembly in another strong-named assembly or add it to the GAC. If you were a third-party vendor, would you strong-name your...

Hi All, We have an automated build and test environment using NAnt and Nunit. Some of our assemblies are being strong named by modifying the AssemblyInfo.cs and having csc compile it. Some of these strong named assemblies are being dynamically loaded into the runtime. We store the metadata information about the strong named assemblies in a config file. Metadata in the config file looks like this:

I've been experiementing with Assembly.Load..CreateInstance and strong naming the assemblies. This has given me a few questions, 1. Does the version number matter? I've found that its the public key token that controls whether the assembly is the right one. Changing the version number did not have any affect.

I was able to compile (Debug) and reference an Configuration Block project for my primary application "AppPrimary.exe". When I add a strong name file to the Configuration Block project and recompile the projects my "AppPrimary.exe" no longer works correctly. I've noticed that when AppPrimary.exe runs with the Non-Strong-Named version of the Config Block the following has the proper values (i.e. Current.builder=...

Hi I have a class project which generates a dll which I would like to install in the gac. When I build the project, I get the following error; Unable to build assembly XXX into the Global Assembly Cache; the assembly is not strongly named. What do I need to do to get the assembly strongly named?

Having trouble linking my strong named assemblies together with a vendor provided assembly that is not strong named. Is this possible without giving up my standards for using strong names?

Recently I had to do some really nasty work (I consider any IL work nasty) to get a set of (not strong named) 3rd party assemblies to compile with our solution (which is strong named). DISCLAIMER: We've notified the 3rd party and a strong named version will be provided in the next release, but in the mean time for our internal development and testing to continue we've had to do some hacking. I do not recommend this technique with...

I have a project references a DLL(by Add Reference), so far so good. However, if I change my application from exe to a class library and also added a reference to that same DLL, I got a compilation error: "Assembly generation failed -- References assembly 'OrderController' does not have a strong name" That OrderController was developed by another developer, I am not sure by ..NET or Java.

Hello, I have created a solution which has both a web UI and a winform UI, the latter is just for administrators. The Web UI (a Web Application Project) and the winform project both reference the same BLL in a separate assembly, and I have all three projects in a single solution file for development, with the two UI's each having a project reference to the BLL assembly. I created a Setup and Deployment package for the winform app...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
