In a recent thread, RKC (correctly, I believe), took issue with my use of
multiple parameters in a Property Let procedure to pass dimensional
arguments on the basis that, although it works, it's not obvious how the
code works if you don't know the intricacies of the Property Let/Get
syntax. Likewise, I dislike (and code to minimize the use of) the VB/VBA
syntax of returning a value by referring to the function name as if it were
a...

I was just thinking about this, specifically wondering if there's any
features that the C specification currently lacks, and which may be
included in some future standardization.
Of course, I speak only of features in the spirit of C; something like
object-orientation, though a nice feature, does not belong in C.
Something like being able to #define a #define would be very handy,
though, e.g:
#define DECLARE_FOO(bar) #define...

A co-worker told me that it is easier to debug a function that contains
only one return statement versus a function that has multiple return
statements.
Is this true, and if so, why?

Here is the situation.
I want to display Icons, Type of file etc from a file extension.
Upon initial program load I may only need icons for certain files. But
other operations will require showing all filetypes and icons. I have an
object that has extension, desc (like Word Document) and then icon, which is
nothing to start with.
I have a collection object of these and when it is initialized it goes to

Here's what I want to do... sorry for the lengthy description ;-)
I have an inventory tracking system with items that I track stock levels on.
Some items are counted with decimal precision (double) and others are counted
using integers; the database record has a flag that says what kind of item a
particular record is (double or integer). I've created an abstract class
called ItemBase and I implement a concrete class (Item) that inherits...

I've got apps where you *really* wouldn't want to delete certain items by
accident, but the users just have to have a "Delete" button.
My current strategies:
Plan A:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Make the cmd button black and do not give it an accelerator key.
2) Issue two levels of confirmation (Do you want to delete... Do you REALLY want

Hi all,
I've got a very specific question about the evaluation order in C++.
Assume some kind of custom array class, with an overloaded subscript
operator. In the following code:
{
my_array a, b, c;
a = b + c;

Hi,
I have a flag to control over the time. I need to decide if the flag
has been mostly true in the last second.
I am sure this kind of problems have been solved before. Could anyone
give me a hint on this?
Thanks

I just noticed that my "improved" version of sscanf() doesn't assign
floating point numbers properly if the variable assigned to is declared
as a "float" rather than a "double". (This never cropped up before, since
I rarely use "float"s for anything, and hardly ever use the function for
floating-point numbers in the first place; I just was messing around
testing it for all cases and noticed a problem.)
Anyway, it is declared and I...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
