Best Practice: Property Usage

When creating a class library is it wrong or not a 'Best Practice' to
reference a property of an object from within a constructor or method of
that object? I recall being told not to do this but I really don't
understand why. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Here is an example of what I mean...

namespace ClassLibrary
{
public class MyClass
{
private string _myString;

public MyClass()
{
}

public MyClass(int myInt)
{
// Best Practice issue?
MyString = GetString(myInt );
}

public string MyString
{
get { return _myString; }
set { _myString = FormatString(va lue); }
}

public void SomePublicMetho d()
{
// Best Practice issue?
SomePrivateMeth od(MyString);
}

private void SomePrivateMeth od(string myString)
{
// Lets pretend that this method does something
}

private string FormatString(st ring myString)
{
// Do some formatting
return myString;
}

private string GetString(int myInt)
{
// Lets pretend this value was retrieved
// based on the myInt parameter
return "someString ";
}
}
}

I can't see any problem with using a property setter to set a field value;
aftera ll it is only really a prettified method. :-)

http://www.JavascriptToolbox.com/bestpractices/ I started writing this up as a guide for some people who were looking for general tips on how to do things the 'right way' with Javascript. Their code was littered with document.all and eval, for example, and I wanted to create a practical list of best practices that they could easily put to use. The above URL is version 1.0 (draft) that resulted. IMO, it is not a replacement for the FAQ,...

Kind of an open question on best-practice for smart-client design. I'd really appreciate anyones views (preferably with reasoning, but I'll take what I get...). Or if anybody has any useful links on the subject? (and yes, I have already googled it at length, but still no strong decision) ============= After a long stint of pure-desktop / pure-server applications, I'm currently working on a number of smart-client projects in C# using...

Hey, I noted that Python encourage the usage of: -- obj.prop = data x = obj.prop -- to set/get an object's property value. What if I want to run some logic upon setting/getting a property? What is Python preferred method to do so (using the new feature 'property')?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
