Is my applicaiton is in the Windows firewall exception list

APA
I have a desktop application (.NET 1.1) that accesses a web service. Many users now have XP and the
Windows Firewall and sometimes when the application first starts that don't properly get the app in
the exception list. So, is there a way to find out if an application is in the firewall exception
list, probably a registry key or something

Greetings! I have a question regarding Assembly information. My program acts as an Internet server. With Windows XP SP2 and the Windows Firewall, the application has to be registered with Windows (simple enough--it pops up the first time, asks you if it's okay to have this program run, and then doesn't bother you). The problem is that the name of the program doesn't get stored in the list for the Windows Firewall. It's just a blank...

My application has a blank freindly name in the windows firewall exception list when windows automatically registers it via user prompt that says: Do you want to keep blocking this program? The name and publisher data is displayed in the above dialog, but when choosing Unblock, the application has a blank name for its friendly name. The program that is being added to the firewall exception list is a .net

Dear all, I built a Web Form application to start and stop a Windows Service remotely. I successful tested the application on Windows 2000 server + IIS. I must include the ASPNET user to the Administration group (on server side) to have the necessary authorization to start a Windows Service (I don't understand why "Power User" rights are not enough to do the same thing) Although I'm able to start a service using windows 2000 server...

I've been trying to use WebClient to download a file from an ftp server, but kept getting this exception during the call to DownloadData: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. After much hair-pulling I finally figured out that if I disable Windows Firewall the error goes away. I imagine I should be able to add something to my Windows Firewall Exceptions list. FTP is already in the exceptions list (and works...

Hi there, I have tried the Windows Firewall APIs from Windows XP SP2 PSDK similar to the example provided by MSDN: ms-help://MS.VSCC.2003/MS.MSDNQTR.2006JAN.1033/ics/ics/exercising_the_firewall.htm, it works on XP SP2 but does not works for Vista. Does anyone knows anyting about the Firewall exceptions on Vista programatically.

I am looking to perform the following actions 1. Detect if the Windows Firewall exists, and is enabled, if it is not the case no action will be taken. 2. See if the application and ports are already Exceptions if so do nothing. 3. Post a message to the user that the firewall will block the application and allow the user to decide if he would like to add an exception, similar to what Visual Studio 2005 does with remote debugging.

Hello, I have a problem with our OnlineBackupService.exe. This is a Windows Service which is built in .Net 1.1 and basically grabs files from the file system and will try to upload them using WebServices. The service is installed by default using LocalSystem account. The exact problem is that sometimes this service is not allowed to resolve the target webservice. This results in the following exception:

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
