Soap, Corba Midas with xml

A good afternoon to you all.

Im currently looking to compare and contrast various methods of data
retrieval in C# .net.

Basically Im looking to see the best way of pulling back data records from a
webservice and through asp.

Can I pull back an xml record and then do further work with it later on,
perhaps as part of a recordset of somesort.

As you can see, my knowledge on this is somewhat limited.

I've found very little on the subject and wondered if anyone had any
comments.

Any help would be appreciated.

Phil

Just want to share my experience on XML-RPC. We were working on a messaging middleware. We were using XML-RPC as communication protocol amoing client apps and server. Client could be written by Java, C/C++, VB, Delphi on both Windows or Unix platforms. Seams like XML-RPC( similiar to SOAP as you know) was a good choice for us. But while the project went on, I encountered some critical problems: First of all, performance problem....

Hi. I want to be able to create a persistent connection between an XML-RPC client and server... i.e. I want to be able to login once, carry out a number of calls and then logout rather than send login info for every call. Is there a way to do this with the xml-rpc code in the standard library? Thanks in advance

I'm put on building a system in Python and I haven't used either webservices, SOAP or Python so I'm a bit lost. This system will require callback functions, should I use Python thru Apache for this or build my own listening daemon? Use module for Apache or do I make some kind of CGI script in Python? Where do I start? What lib do I use for XML? SOAP? Webservices? Is there any nice project/tutorial for this so I can give it a taste...

I understand how an XML formatted SOAP message is used to request items from a web service and how the XML formatted SOAP response is used. I am still missing the big picture, however. When is this used? For example, let's say that I have three systems. An Oracle system, SQL Server 2000 system and a DB2 legacy system.

Hello everybody, I have already found a fair bit of information regarding on this group however I wouldn't mind expanding that a bit if possible. :) I am at the moment weighing my options in regards to developing a distributed system. Some of the key characteristics are: a) The server, apart from listening for client RPC's, must also listen to a database demon which informs it about any updates. The server then must notify the client...

Hi, to all, I'm going to implement a web service interface, to interact with remote programs by SOAP. Well, I would do it _stand alone_, without using a server like apache/axis (I would like to use c++, in linux). The question is: Is possible do it? I should implement a SOAP interpreter, is possible to find some

>From my simple performance tests of SOAP it seems that it is about ten times slower than binary object request protocols such as RMI, IIOP or SimpleORB. Is this also YOUR experience ?

I have followed http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/idl/GShome.html to build a corba application. When i run the orb, server and client on the same machine it works fine. When i follow this guide http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/idl/tutorial/jidl2machines.html to run the orb and server on one machine and the client on another machine it doesn't work.

I'm having trouble finding information about writing a SOAP server. I get the client part. There is much information about writing a client, but not so much about writing the server. Are there some good tutorials? I'm checking out: http://pywebsvcs.sourceforge.net/

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
