Installed Visual 2005 Beta 2, but cannot open devenv.exe

Hi,

I've installed (by that I mean a full uninstall and re-install) Visual
Studio 2005 at least twice on my 64-bit windows machine (AMD64). I make
sure I install the SDK 2.0 for x64, and the installation is completed
'Succesfully' as per the setup dialogs.

However, when I try to open the IDE by clicking on the shortcut, or
attempting to open \Common7\IDE\de venv.exe, I get the following dialog:

''Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered an error and needs to
close.''

Attempting to debug this doesn't go any further than this message. The
error is cryptic (of course!) and I have no idea what next steps to
take. Has anyone come across this, and resolved it?

Thanks!!

Hi,

I can give you only one advice. Repeat this message in the newsgroup

microsoft.publi c.dotnet.langua ges.vb

Your question is in nothing related with VB however I know that Ken Tucker
has strugled a lot with getting his 64 bit machine working, and Ken is
primaly active in that newsgroup.

(And don't talk that your question is non VB related, telling that I wrote
it, just put 64Kb in the Subject at your question)

I hope it helps,

What version of the SDK are you using? The one from Microsoft downloads? If
so, you cannot use Beta 2 Visual Studio with this version of the SDK.

Hi, I'm installing SDK 2.0 (for 64-bit) off the Beta 2 CD, and I'm sure
it's the right one because the installation worked before the holiday
weekend. I had Visual 2005 open (and possibly building) and there was a
power outage so I had to reboot the machine, and from then on, I was
unable to get it to start up.

I'm looking for any temp files that may need to be deleted, but apart
from that, I'm not sure what else to try.

Can someone tell me to what process I need to attach to be able to step through my classic ASP code in VS.net 2003. I'm working on an XP box with IIS installed. I also have VS.net 2005 (The final, never installed beta) installed on this box if it makes a difference (I did not install VS Development Web Server as I'm already using the XP web server). I've seen that I need to attach to the native IIS engine, but I don't know what it's...

I have a "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System Beta 2" disk, along with Visual C#, Visual Basic, and Visual Web Developer 2005 disks. Also VS 2005 Team Foundation Server, SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Community Technology Preview, and VS 2005 Team Suite. Can I safely install these without doing anything bad to my current VS 2003 setup? Or would this be asking for trouble? Can I assume that VS 2005 is 100% backwards compatible with...

In the book: "Working with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005" Craig Skibo wrote: "The power of Visual Studio 2005 lies in its ability to empower users to build, test, and debug powerful applications quickly and easly." Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
