Hi,
Am new to web services, so apologies for the basic nature of the question -
and apologies in advance if this is the wrong newsgroup. We're building a
new web service and I'm looking around for documentation on a number of
issues, including versioning of web service interfaces...
I've spent the last few hours looking through books, Google, MSDN and
surprisingly I have found little or nothing that explains/shows how to
practically...

I have a Windows Service (VB.NET) that runs 24/7. It
contacts a Web Service (VB.NET on IIS). As long as we
send requests to the Web Service at least once every 15
minutes, everything works fine. We send the request
asynchronously and wait for the response. When there is
a 30 minute or greater gap between requests, we get the
following error message in the Windows service return
thread:
Error #: 5, Description: The underlying...

I am writing a mobile application to interface with a legacy system and I am
planning to use web services to communicate with this system. The legacy
system receives data through a serial port. What I would like to do is make
the serial port accessible via a web service.
The web service and the legacy application would be running on the same
machine. The mobile application would access the web service via a network
connection. It...

We have a customer using our application that has a problem.
Within our app, we have a two different forms (one generates
an email, the other a fax via a webservice). When they click the
submit button, IE6 is generating the event 6 times!!! So they
end up sending 6 faxes or 6 emails. We simply cannot reproduce
this. We can't find anything wrong in our code that might cause
this, I can't find anything in MS Technet about IE bugs that...

I have an ASP.NET application that makes 12 different web service calls
from a single method call. Each of the web services themselves don't
do much more than run a small query (I've run the queries elsewhere and
they complete virtually instantaneously) on some database and return a
dataset. As it so happens, the 12 calls are split up between 4
different web services on the same server, and the web services
themselves are ASP.NET apps...

I was executing the steps given in http://suppor.microsoft.com/kb/308359 for
testing a sample web service application. However, the following line gives a
compilation error:
localhost.Service1 xxx = new localhost.Service1();
localhost is not recognized by the compiler.

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
