Hi there, we have a problem when using NetDDE from a non-interactive session Our solution is a VB6 program which - among other things - requests data from a DDE server. The program is not a service itself but it is activated by another program which is a service. When we try to get the data from DDE - using NetDDE since the data is located in a different server - the connection is established but we cannot get the data. We have tried using a...

I have a service running under SYSTEM in XP that needs to notify the interactive user. From all of my newsgroup reading it looks like it is no longer acceptable to set the service as "Interact with Desktop". I have no problem with that because I actually want to notify certain interactive users. So under Terminal Services or Fast User Switching, I only want to notify a particular interactive user. I could run a second service or exe...

Hi All.. I have developed an application (vb.net) that basically wakes up early morning, and transmits via FTP an access database. The application works fine. Lately, it hasnt been working, so some investigation found that the users (all XP Pro) where logging off their PC's. Of course, logging off their PC's caused the program to cease running. My vb.net app is installed by a Setup Project under VS.NET. What I

I have tried to find a solution on this problem "everywhere" without any luck. I am writing a service to track the time that the current logged on interactive user is using the computer. Perhaps one of you experts out there can point me in the right direction? Thank you for any help!

Hi, I'm developing a non-interactive C++ windows service (as support for interactive services will run out...) that shall communicate with a .net application on the local host. What's the best way this can be done? I've thought of window messages (by FindWindow, SendMessage, etc.) - but this requires the 'interactive' flag to be set.... Best wishes,

Is there any way to create a local server during runtime? For example, if you add an existing Web Site to a Solution from within Visual Studio (by right clicking the solution in the Solution Explorer, then selecting Add - Existing Web Site...), then Visual Studio will create an ASP.NET Development Server on a random port (e.g., http://localhost:1619/Test). Can a similar thing be done during runtime with VB.NET? If not, is it possible to...

The conventional approach is easy enough; drop a NotifyIcon onto a Form. When the form is loaded - bingo - the icon appears in the System Tray. I can't use this approach though. I'm writing a service. But I'd like my service to install an icon on the System Tray so that the user can start / stop / and otherwise control the service interactively, and without having to go to the Services applet. How do I do this? Thanks for your advice.

"(MSSQLSERVER) service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services" This problems may solve a recurring failure in my automatic updates if I can figure out what to do with it. Any Suggestions welcome - Cheers

Hi, I know this question has been answered before (somewhat) but I have a twist... I've written a client/server application where the server portion runs as a windows service and allows connections across the network from remote users. The application all works like a charm and is very effective. However, during testing it occured to me that hooking up to the remote user's computer across the network without their knowledge could be...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
