Converting .vcproj files to msbuild (w/out needing vcbuild)

As I’ve been reading about msbuild, I’ve noticed articles that mention
msbuild’s incapability to natively read .vcproj files. In short, executing
msbuild blah.vcproj causes msbuild to invoke vcbuild to perform the actual
..vcproj processing. I’ve been working on a tool that converts .vcproj files
to msbuild formatted files so, with the appropriate C++ tasks (including cl
and link tasks), a user could build his code on the command line without
needing vcbuild. My question is: does anyone out there think this is
particularly useful? Has anyone spoken with customers who want or need this
capability now?

Thanks.

Hi all, I was always told that the conversion of Word files to HTML as done by Word itself sucks - you get a lot of unnecessary code that can influence the design on web browsers other than Internet Explorer. Our computer expert in my company had told me already a while ago that I should learn HTML and encode myself. I was never inclined to do so (I am no computer expert), and when upon his suggestion I looked how my pages (converted to...

Hello All, I'am writing a batch converter which will convert all the old .csproj files of earlier version of .NET to .NET 2.0 . I dont have Visual Studio 2005. So to convert programatically I need that assembly Microsoft.Build.Conversion.dll . But with the .NET SDK v2.0.40607 I don't find the .dll file under $ROOT\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.40607 . I heard that this assembly is used by Visual Studio for conversion, why is...

Hello, A partner is going to be creating some HTML files that I plan on converting to user controls (UC) and dynamically load at runtime. I'm guessing Visual Studio doesn't come with some utililty to convert HTML files to UCs? IOW, I'll have to manually convert each HTML file to a UC? I've never used user controls before, so I'm wondering what I need to add and remove to each UC (or HTML file) to make this work. For instance, I...

I need to create a large number of VS 2005 .csproj files from an equal number of VS 2003 .csproj files so that I can use msbuild with MSBee to build .NET 1.1 software. My question, is there a command line utility that can be scripted that would take as input a vs 2003 .csproj file and make a vs 2005 .csproj file with a different file name? I want to keep the orinals around for backward compatability, at least for the short term. Does...

I'm using an app designed in Access 2003 which exports a report into a .snp file. We are manually converting the snp files into pdf. I'll looking for away to convert the files from snp to pdf automatically via Access. I believe the Adobe Distiller linked to Access would automate this for us but I do not know how to link Access to the Distiller so a pdf is created. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks Lisa

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
