Launching a cygwin utility from within a Windows Service

Ok, I'm trying to write a basic scp scheduler, which will occasionally
scan a directory, and use cygwin's scp.exe to copy the files to a Unix
box. After various problems, the set up I've got now is this:

A Console application, which accepts the file as a parameter, and
launches the scp utility via the Process.Start() command. If I call
this Console from a command line, or from a dos-prompt, the file
transfers correctly, without need of input from me, as the id_dsa keys
are set up correctly.

If I call the same console application from a Windows Service, even
though the parameters get passed through correctly, the process never
gets past the Process.WaitFor Exit() statement. It does launch the scp
utility, however, as it shows up in Task Managers process list. The
Windows Service is set up to run under my domain account, the same I
use to log in every day.

Does the Windows Service not have the same environment variables I have
set up? Why should it not run correctly when called from a Windows
service, if it runs when called from the command line?

Hi guys, I have written a web service, but I want clients to be able to consume it without having the .NET framework installed on their PC. The web service doesn't return any values; it is just used to record requests: a user can send their personal ID to the web service, and this is stored in a database. Is is possible to launch this request from a hyperlink? What other options have I got in terms of launching this service from a...

I have a Windows Service I am writing in C# and a set of, let us say three, other executables written in C# (mostly console applications). I want that the Windows Service must do so every few seconds: Check to see if each of the other executables are running or not. If they are not running, it should load them. For this purpose, I am planning the following:

I am looking for a function to resolve 'F:/foo/bar' into '/cygdrive/f/ foo/bar'. I get the original dirpath from tkFileDialog.askdirectory in a Windows form and none of os.path.* functions seem to resolve it to a cygwin form. Rather they _append_ it to the current directory, resulting at best in a monster '/cygdrive/c/whatever/f/foo/bar'. It's all being developed under cygwin currently (so it is a kind of mixed environment), but I would...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
