I couldn't think of a good solution, and it's hard to Google for...
I write python command-line programs under Win2k, and I use the bash shell
from Cygwin. I cannot use Cygwin's python package because of a binary
module which has to be compiled with Visual C 6.
My scripts start with a '#!/usr/bin/env python' shebang, as God intended.
Now, I assume I can make cmd.exe run foo.py by asociating *.py with the
python interpreter.

I'm writing a socket class using unix flavor sockets. I'm developing on
win2k with M$ visual studio 6.0.
I have cygwin installed and would like to use its socket header files:
#ifdef UNIX
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <sys/socket.h>
#include <netinet/in.h>
#else // Windows.
#include </cygwin/usr/include/sys/types.h>

Just installed Cygwin on my Win 2K Pro workstation today.
I had the installer install PostgreSQL, and it's working just fine. I can
start it either with
postmaster -D /blah/blah/blah &
or with
pg_ctl -D /blah/blah/blah start
however, it will not stop for me (pg_ctl -D /blah/blah/blah stop). It gets
about half way through the second line of "dots" and then says "failed".

If anyone is interested in using db2uext2 with Cygwin gcc compiler on
Windows, I've modified the IBM provided sample with the attached file.
There are two main modifications.
The mkdir command is the POSIX compliant version as opposed to the
MicroSoft C compiler. The second parameter to mkdir is the file mode.
In this case, I've made the directories created to be
read/write/execute(list) for all users.

this has me puzzled; I've created a small test app to show the problem
I'm having.
I want to use subprocess to execute system commands from inside a
Tkinter app running under Cygwin.
When I open a python interpreter and run my subprocess command, all is
well. But when I run the same command from inside a Tkinter app, I'm
getting errors.

I have a Tkinter app running on cygwin. It includes a Test menu item
that does nothing more than fetch a directory listing and display it
in a Toplevel window (I'd use a tkMessageBox showinfo widget, but for
some reason the text is invisible on cygwin).
After I close the Toplevel widget, all of the menus in my app behave
as though they have no contents to them, i..e I can press on the File
menu button, and see it depress, but the Exit...

I spent a few headache filled days trying to use GMP on windows
(XP pro)
I finally got it to work and since I found little help on the Web
I thought someone might find what i did useful.
Creating an environment suitable for GMP programming.
1) Create 'cygwin' environment (see below)
2)add GMP to the cygwin directory (see below)

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
