How to trobleshoot slow link time

My very large native C++ app takes a long time to link (approaching five
minutes).

How can I troubleshoot *why* it takes so long to link? I'd like to look for
ways to reorganize things to speed up the link.

Thanks,

Chris

Have you tried /time on the linker?

essentially I am trying to do some counts based on some assumptions in the recordset. So I get the RS back, put the values into a variable, move to the next record in the RS and compare what is in the variable to the value in the next record in the recordset and do a count. Then overwrite the value in the variables and do the same for the next record and so. But this runs extremly slow. 5000 records takes about 10 minutes in IE6 and I...

I am using the MySQL ODBC 3.51 driver to link three relatively small MySQL tables to a Microsoft Access 2003 database. I am finding that the data from the MySQL tables takes a hell of a long time to load making any kind linkage with my Access data virtually useless. I have the MySQL driver setup in as a USER DSN. The MySQL data is sitting out on a server and the Access database is running locally. The network connection is very...

I previously posted re. this, but thought I'd try again with a summary of facts. I have an Access 2000 MDB with a SQL Server 7 back end. There is a view that is linked to the database via ODBC and has been in place for several years without any performance problems. Recently I added a couple of fields to the output of the view, and it became very slow when scrolling. When just opened in the database window, the linked view takes about...

I have a bit of vb code that uses Tables.Append to programatically link tables from Oracle and DB2 datasources. The problem I am having on some client machines is that the link will take anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes to link the table. When I manually link the tables, through Access, it takes no time at all. Note that only certain client have the problem, and the problem will sometimes go away. These clients will usually get an ODBC Call...

Hi, We have an internal network of 3 users. Myself & one other currently have individual copies of the front-end MS Access forms and via our individual ODBC links we have used the: File > Get External Data > Link Tables > select ODBC Databases facility to link to our back-end MySQL Server. On both our machines the tables appear in the window very quickly and if we hit 'Select All', all the tables start loading really quickly into our...

I'm having trouble with a query that's prohibitively slow. On my free-standing office computer it's fine (well, 2-4 seconds), but on the client's network, it takes at least 5 minutes to run. Obviously not workable! I know where the problem is, I just don't know how to fix it. The query calls a function, and I assume it gets slow because the function runs on every record. So--is there a way to rewrite the function so it's quicker?...

I am writing some kind of network testing tool and I have wrote the following code in ASP.NET with C# int size= 10048576; // around 10 MB data string buffer = ""; for (int j=1; j<=1024; j++) { buffer = String.Concat(buffer, "x"); // I tried buffer += "x"; same performance }

Why is "Visual Studio .net 2003 7.1 c++" so much slower than VS6 at linking? It looks like "Visual Studio .net 2003 7.1 c++" doesn't even do incremental linking! I make one very minor change in a .cpp from one of my thirty projects and the whole thing links! (I turned on verbose linking to verify this.) Is there something else I need to do to turn on incremental linking? Rudy

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
