The SEI has published CMU/SEI-2006-TR-006 "Specifications for Managed
Strings" and released a "proof-of-concept" implementation of the managed
string library.
The specification, source code for the library, and other resources
related to managed strings are available for download from the CERT web
site at:

This is a managed MSDN newsgroup, right? I posted a question on 8/20
regarding event order, but have received no response at all. I was under the
impression that such posts would be responded to within a couple of days at
most. Have the rules/expectations changed? Is this in fact not a managed
group?
TIA,
Bill

Hello,
I have a legacy MFC application that has a lot of editor functionality
associated with a class that extends CFrameWnd. This editor watches for key
down events by using the OnKeyDown handler in the message map. In my legacy
MFC application, my OnKeyDown handler is always called, as I would expect.
I'm calling the legacy application's editor window from within a C#
application. I've written a little C++/CLI application that...

Hi,
I am developing a managed c# snap-in for MMC 3.0. According to
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb226798.aspx, the start page
should have smoothly expanding/collapsing sections. Unfortunately,
mmc30_samples in WDK does not contain a start page sample. Do I have to
derive the start page from Microsoft.ManagementConsole.FormView or something
else? Do I have to implement expanding/collapsing myself, or I can use some
existing...

Hi all,
I've inhertied a managed C++ (Visual Studio 2005) application. The project
apparently contains no assembly attributes (the kind of stuff that would be
in an AssemblyInfo.cs file). How do I add this stuff to a managed C++
project?
TIA - Bob

I have a split container on my form,
from within one of them I wish to reach
the main from of the app. I'm having
problems with the headers and namespaces.
I want something like this:
//within right pane form
ABCForm^ abcForm = (ABCForm^)Application::OpenForms;
abcForm->ExecutePublicFunction();

I have a managed C++ project and two C# projects. All are class library
projects. The C++ project links with native C++ static libraries and
references to one C# project. The projects structure goes something like this.
Proj2_MCPP --(references)--Proj1_CSharp
Proj3_CSharp --(references)--Proj2_MCPP and Proj1_CSharp
My objective is to link the DLLs produced by the 3 projects into a single DLL.
I tried the following scenario.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
