New to XML services book recommendation please

Hi all,

I am about to move into programming using an xml web services model. The
first thing I need to know is whether you can use them privately within a
corporate LAN, or whether you need to be connected to the internet for
something.

Secondly I'd like a good book recommendation (I'm in the UK). The
documentation online is a minefield if you aren't familiar with the whole
..net framework. I am very comfortable with C++ and the traditional
framework model. I understand the reason for the XML services model but none
of the specifics regarding implementation. I also know next to nothing about
the .net framework. So I'd like a book that is geared up towards
knowledgeable programmers who are new to these technologies. If possible I'd
like a book which also covers the difference between using an xml web
service and .net remoting. Database usage with .net would also be an
advantage.

Thanks.

Phil.

Hi all: I am looking for a C++ book that will help me take my skills to the next level. My highest level of C++ education goes as far as the Data Structures class in college. As part of a project for another class (SystemC) I have to modify this code that is (as far as I know) industrial grade code. And off course, I am having problems with it. I do have the Stoutstrup (spelled right?) book, but I found it hard to understand. May be I...

could somebody please recommend a good book to prepare for exam Exam 70-320*: Developing XML Web Services and Server Components with Microsoft Visual C# and the Microsoft .NET Framework . One that you have read please that you recommend. Also any suggestions for a decent ADO.NET book (C# orientated) would be good. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone read the book Microsoft .NET Remoting by Williams, Naftel, & McClean (Microsoft Press)? There are mixed reviews on Amazon. I'd like to know what you think. If you've also read Microsoft .NET Distributed Applications: Integrating XML Web Services and .NET Remoting by MacDonald, I'd also be interested in your opinion of that.

I am in need of a book recommendation to pick up C++ properly and elegantly. I program extensively within the Python programming language and have a decent grasp of OOP (possibly could be better) and am adept with ansi C. Would any of you have a book recommendation that goes into swift detail and clearly written? Thank you in advance.

Hi all, I'd like to ask for book recommendations, please. I'm a VB guy looking to move to C#. I have quite a fair amount of experience of VB.NET (and prior to that, VB4 through VB6), so I'm not new to programming or the .NET framework itself. I am also quite versed in general "object oriented" programming, especially since moving to VB.NET from VB6, although I've done object-oriented programming in VB6, too (well, as much as you can...

Hello, What up to date book is recommended covering xml (including namespaces and schemas), and a book covering things like WSDL? This book, 'Building Web Services with Java, Second Edition' has nine authors, they all appear to be highly qualified, and the book is praised on Amazon by reviewers, but has many errors. Thanks.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
