Master Pages Vs Page Inheritance

Hello,

I am trying to implement page templates in my web application.
I am using frame work 1.1. Can you suggest me, if I have to go with Master
pages(dll developed by asp.net team) or use page inheritance instead?

any help will be appretiated.
Thanks

Ok ; I am adding my findings here; may be that will help some one.
At the end after huge research and lot of googling now I am convinced that I
have to use master pages. That way I can use best of both the worlds.
I mean to say that I can implement master pages and at the same time inherit
from a basepage rather than System.Web.UI.P age.; The Base page inturn
inherits from the System.Web.UI.P age.

hope that helps some one.

Thanks,

With ASP we have setup a pretty good method for maintaining a consistent look and feel with minimal effort. The method has it's pros and cons, but the maintenance is minimal. The method consists of utilizing a single default.asp page to call any page on the site passing query parameters with the page to determine what page and associated menu to load. The menu info is maintained in a database and a COM+ dll is utilized to go to the...

Hi all I'd like to understand something about master pages: 1)Why if if try to typecast a masterpage inside a "child page" the compiler tells it dont find the class? I was trying to declare a property in the master and access it from the child but the problem is not with the property, is with the typecast of the class 2)Why both master page and child pages are declared as partial class? 3)Why the events in the Master pages are "created"...

So I have been working on an opensource project for a while, and decided to really try to make it look better after focusing on the functionality most of this time. Up to now, I have simply used a standard ASPX page with minor modifications to it. All of my pages inherit from a "BasePage.cs" class, that handles common things like getting the user's information out of the session, determines if a page should or should not be password...

Thinking of creating a website, most of the pages will have a general toolbar menu, a content and a footer. The content will be the only one who's gonna change but the rest (header, footer) will remain the same. I am interested to know your opinions/suggestions in finding an easy way of doing it. In asp one could have something like this:

Hello, Here's my scenario: I have a simple contact form set up where the user can choose how they wish to be contacted from a list of options presented in a Select box (DropDownList). Depending on what they choose, a panel will be made visible with more form fields relating to that option. So, e.g., if they choose "email" then a panel with a text box for entering the email address appears.

Hi, I want to use 2 master pages, one for the main part of the site, the other for the admin pages. They are quite similar, with many shared elements. Ideally I would like to have a parent master page, which both of these child master pages are based on, and in turn the final pages are based on one of these child master pages.

I know that sometimes referring to controls deep in a page using a Master Page can be funky. For a website using a standard header/footer/nav, do you prefer using User Controls for the common items, or do you prefer Master Pages? What is best from your experience? I've downloaded a few sample projects (like for the Telerik Rad Controls) and have noticed that they like to use User Controls.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
