Want to learn about Setup/deployment

Does anybody know of a single source of information (book, article etc) on
setup/deployment projects? I've got the old Wrox Deployment one, but I'm
tired of never finding what I'm looking for.

Thanks for your answer. These articles are too basic. I need something much
beefier. Especially regarding custom actions.

Examples
1) I have found how to pass parameters from User Interface dialog boxes, but
not the reserved installationpar ameters such as [Productname]. How, for
instance, do I pick up the installation path that the user has entered.

2) Also do a need to retort to other installers to use FileOpen dialogs or
something like that? In this particular case, the user needs to assign a
wordtemplate to an action during installlation. It would be much easier if
he/she could browse the file instead of typing or copying-and-pasting.

Hello, Can anyone point me to a good link on MSDN that has all the information on how to create Setup and Deployment projects in VS.Net? I've got the basics down and have created custom installer classes and they work fine, but I cannot find any information on the different properties that can be used as launch conditions or that can be passed into my custom installer classes. For example, what property gives me the location of the...

One exe registers the component and calls the actual second exe. When I am creating the setup I am selecting both the exe's...

I am not sure if I post this issue at the correct newgroup. If I need to post it somewhere else, please let me know what is the correct newsgroup for this. I am using VB.NET 2005 and I create a "setup and deployment" project. When I use this installation to install on a user's machine, how can I merge some registry settings into the user's machine ? Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
