Replace String using wild card

Hi all,

I want to remove the test after a period? Why does the wild card * not work?

Dim test As String = "This is just a test report. ERCP"

MessageBox.Show (Replace(test, ".*", "."))

thanks for your help

I have a number of strings, containing wildcards (e.g. 'abc#e#' where # is anything), which I want to match with a test string (e.g 'abcdef'). What would be the best way for me to store my strings so lookup is as fast as possible?

I need to filter an Access 2000 result set in ASP 30 using the ADO recordset.filter. I build the filter in pieces. The first clause of the filter is this... WHERE word LIKE 'S%' ... to which other clauses are appended with AND. This all works fine as long as I provide a condition for the first clause

I am working on a form now that has two things in it: a text box and a subform. The subform is from a query. The text box is just a normal text box. However, I would like to link the text box to the subform in a manner that would allow the material entered in the text box to act as a "wild card" search for the subform. So, if I entered the word "the" into the text box the subform would return anything in its contents with the word "the" as...

Hey, I'm trying to open a txt file, but I won't know the first three characters of the filename. For example, I want to open a "user.txt" file, and I know it will have three digits in front of it, like "123_user.txt", but they could be any three digits. Is there a way to introduce a wild card into the open command to specify this? #!usr/bin/perl open (FILE, "***_user.txt") or die "Can't find file!" ; print "Found file!" ; close...

Is it possible to do a search for a wild card string in another string. For example, I'd like to find "v*.dat" in a string called bingo. v must be matched against only the first character in bingo, and not simply found somewhere in bingo, as might be the case for "*v*.dat". -- Wayne Watson (Watson Adventures, Prop., Nevada City, CA) (121.015 Deg. Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
