Application Updater Block - Won't start new version

I am attempting to use the Application Updater block so that I can have my
..net windows forms application automatically update when a new version is
available.

I have deployed version 1.0.0.0 to the user machine.
I have created version 1.0.0.1, and put this on the update server

I am trying to build a self updating application (started using the appstart
application as in the samples given).

I have managed to get it working to the point where it picks up the new
version and downloads it. It then asks the user if they wish to start the new
version, and if you say yes, it exits out of the application and restarts -
but it restarts the same (old) version again.

I expected that it would change the appstart.exe.co nfig file to point to the
new version, but this doesn't get changed!!! And yet somewhere (I can't work
out where) it registers that the new version has been downloaded, as it
doesn't try to download it again.

Can anyone help me out with this? I have been looking at this for 2 days
now, and it is starting to drive me insane!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I would like to make my application to automatically check on updates from a source and if any, downloads it and automatically updates itself with the new version. Now because the application itself is running, I cannot update the executable immediately, but need to request a restart of the computer to automatically update itself. Does anyone know how I can update the application without having to restart the computer but is still...

Hi, I have an VB.NET application that uses an OCX for some control. I integrated the application with the .NET Application Updater Component (http://windowsforms.net/articles/appupdater.aspx) to copy automaticly new versions of the application to the clients. The problem is: it copies the OCX, but the OCX isn't registered. Everything works fine until the the directory of the old version is deleted: The application doesn't find anymore...

Hello Everyone, I have an application that uses the application updater block V2. The application is launched using an appStart assembly first. Everything has been working great for a few weeks now, until last night when I added reports to the manifest. I cannot for the life of me determine what is going on. I am using the Bits Downloader Provider to update my files. I have created text files and given them the name of the report...

Does anyone ACTUALLY have the application updater block working? I've been beating my head against the wall on this one for about 3 days. It looks cool. It seems promising. I've even read this guy's blog entry about how to implement it (http://weblogs.asp.net/duncanma/articles/10221.aspx) and how breath takingly simple it is to actually get it done. Damned if I can get it to work.

I've (finally!) gotten the Application Updater block to work (only took eight hours - thanks to Zac Hamilton's walkthough @ http://www.ballzac.com/updaterblock/Updater%20Application%20Block%20HOW-TO%20generic.htm) Anyway, now that it's actually downloading the new app, I'd like the old version to exit gracefully and then restart in the new version. Any suggestions about how to pull this off???? Many thanks! Jon

I am looking for a way to distrubute my client application. Once I distrubute my application, I will want it to automatically update itself. I will put the new files on the webserver. I have seen examples of this on the web. But none of them are good. Does anyone know any resource where I an get the source code that is pretty much fully working? Thanks, Mark

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
