Application Updater - Restart newly downloaded app?

I've (finally!) gotten the Application Updater block to work (only took eight hours - thanks to Zac Hamilton's walkthough @ http://www.ballzac.com/updaterblock/...%20generic.htm)

Anyway, now that it's actually downloading the new app, I'd like the old version to exit gracefully and then restart in the new version.

Any suggestions about how to pull this off????

Many thanks!
Jon

Now because the application itself is running, I cannot update the executable immediately, but need to request a restart of the computer to automatically update itself. Does anyone know how I can update the application without having to restart the computer but is still...

Hi, I have an VB.NET application that uses an OCX for some control. I integrated the application with the .NET Application Updater Component (http://windowsforms.net/articles/appupdater.aspx) to copy automaticly new versions of the application to the clients. The problem is: it copies the OCX, but the OCX isn't registered. Everything works fine until the the directory of the old version is deleted: The application doesn't find anymore...

Hello Everyone, I have an application that uses the application updater block V2. The application is launched using an appStart assembly first. Everything has been working great for a few weeks now, until last night when I added reports to the manifest. I cannot for the life of me determine what is going on. I am using the Bits Downloader Provider to update my files. I have created text files and given them the name of the report...

Hi, Our C# windows form applications deploy on our clients, most PCs are Windows XP. And we want to do something so the application will listen to our server to check if an updating is needed, to some extent it's similiar to the Windows Update. I am not sure if C# can do this or I have to solve it in other ways. Any help will be appreciated.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
