Sun's 'Acquisition' of NOVL -- Attempt to Derail

All this talk about Sun acquiring NOVL is bullshit.

It's an attempt to defuse Suse -- the best distro ever bar none.

Jonathan Schwartz is a panty-waist fancy boy who can't dream up a product or
code worth shit and he can't fill the shoes of Bill Joy, so he concocts
fantasy crapola to bother and annoy people.

I'm sure that Jon's M$ buddies are patting him on the back for that bit of
F.U.D.

Steve Ballmer welcomes Jonathan Schwartz to the Corporate Troll club of
people who have high positions and nothing but too much time on their hands
so they bother the people who do the real work.

So you think it isn't going to happen, eh?

I would rather it not. My first experience in *nix outside the
university (which was all VAX) was on a Sparc 5 - terrible machine,
IMO. I remember using Xerox Scanworx and some odd programs by Sun to
do word processing.

What I'd like to have a request to, say, http://www.mydomain.com/Aaaa/Bbbb/Cccc be handled by http://www.mydomain.com/Aaaa/index.php but with the "Bbbb" and "Cccc" stored in a request variable or attribute. This becomes very very useful when building multi-lingual websites. This can be done in JSP/servlets using 'filters' and it is provided in Zope through 'acquisition'.

Does anyone have any idea's what I need to do to fix this?

Hi, I need to use WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) from managed C++. Is there a "new and improved" way to access WIA from managed C++ (i.e., through .net)? Or, is it the same COM calls as from unmanaged C++? If it's the same COM calls, is there a "new and improved" way to access COM through managed C++? Or, do I do the same CComPtr magic as with unmanaged C++? Or, can I not use ATL facilities from managed C++ and I would have to...

Hello, We are starting to discuss a new ASP.NET application that will be a data acquisition display application. The data to be displayed will come from multiple sources--database tables, serial and Ethernet PLCs, OPC servers, etc. The application will need to display graphic gauges and charts, in addition to the actual values retrieved from the various data sources. The application will need to continually update itself in a real-time...

I'm having a hard time tying to build gcc 4.3.1 on Solaris using the GNU compilers. I then decided to try to use Sun's compiler. The Sun Studio 12 compiler reports the following code, which is in the source (gcc-4.3.1/gcc/c-common.c) of gcc 4.3.1, is a syntax error. I'm inclined to agree, as it is like no C I have ever met. what is "C_COMMON_FIXED_TYPES (, fract);" supposed to mean? Could it be

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
