For posterity's sake, here is an algorithm I created to take a GMT
time and convert it to U.S. central time, accounting for daylight
saving time. Note: this algorithm can be modified to work for any
other U.S. timezone by changing the number of second subtracted at the
end.

Several threads have discussed the accuracy of time calculated using
script when Daylight Saving Time (DST) is considered. A page at
http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/ gives much information on DST,
and how it differs in various parts of the world. There is a calculator
for the US and EU systems. However there are other variations in the
world.
In the US, I live in the CST time zone. However this is called CDT when
DST is in effect....

Since googling this issue only brings up the April fool's problem, which was
solved years ago, I hope that somebody can help me with this. I have a large
vc++/mfc application which needs to know when DST is in effect. This has
been working fine for years, but I am worried about the upcoming change in
2007 in the US, which will be followed by a number of Canadian provices
(where my application is used). The function that I use is very...

I have an old machine running Mandrake 9.2 and PHP 4.3.1 hosting
several websites.
With the coming changes to daylight savings time in March 2007, what
are my options in correcting the current calculation on this machine?
Ideal option: RPM patch.
Worst option: upgrade OS (it's a very old machine).

Hi,
is it possible to get the two annual daylight saving times
(day, month and time) from Python by giving location
in some country/location string ("Europe/Finland" for example).
I need to ask country in program and calculate daylight
saving times for the next few years onwards somehow like this:
for y in range(2007, 2017):

I was investigating a function to determine whether daylight saving
was being observed on a particular date (given the platform's regional
settings) and came across a suggestion at merlyn.com to test the time
zone offset on a variety of dates to see if it changes. Based on
that, I developed the following checkDST() function which, as far as I
can tell, should be sufficient.
It checks either the date passed to it or the current date with...

Hi,
I have a web application that will be hosted on servers with timezones
configured to EST with daylight saving.
My application takes an XML datafeed that contains times in GMT (also with
daylight saving that will change on different dates to EST)
Is there any way within the .net framework to convert the current time from
the server (which will be EST with daylight saving) to GMT?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
