About 2 years ago, and as recently as perhaps 1 year ago, I can recall
seeing many posts about what language to use with ASP.Net. The consensus was
that employers paid more for C# programmers, and it seems that C# became the
darling of the ASP.Net crowd.
In the meantime, I have observed an interesting phenomenon. Originally,
employers hired programmers who used C# because it was based on C, and the
prevailing opinion was (and may still...

I have Visual Studio .NET and SQL Server Desktop Engine on my computer. I
have created an empty database using Visual Studio .NET's Server Explorer.
However, I am having trouble connecting to the database using ASP.NET. I
think the problem is somewhere in my connection string, but because I do not
know much about connection strings, I am not sure what it should look like.
Can someone please help me determine what my connection string should...

Hi,
I wrote a simple web application using web matrix. When I run it on my local
computer all works fine, but when I run it on hosting site all hyperlinks
are not working and just postback to the original page. I have rechecked the
links and they are set right, & work on local computer, but not on hosted
site. I have noticed that when you mouse over the link on local host the
adress shows like...

Argh yourself. You are CLOSE to right. Debugging is something you do to
identify the problem SO YOU CAN FIX IT. I will obviously not be fixing IIS
even if I do figure it out. Yes, I obviously need to figure out a work
around, but my preferred solution woulld have been, "Oh, MS has identified
that bug and here is the fix". I am not looking forward to debugging a
platform I cannot see into and deals with multi-threading.
I did appreciate...

Hi all,
I got tortured by a very weird problem when I was using k. wilder's
random generator class in my program. PS: wilder's generator class can
be found at http://oldmill.uchicago.edu/~wilder/Code/random/.
Firstly, I got the notorious "fatal error C1010: unexpected end of file
while looking for precompiled header directive" error when I tried to
compile 'randtest.c' provided by wilder.

I am running into a problem with a web page I have created when
viewing it in IE6 on some machines. The page has a database lookup.
The user enters an account name or number and clicks a lookup button.
This hits an AS400 database looks for matches and returns a dataset
that is used to populate a datagrid. The user then selects one of the
entries from the list, this entry is used to populate a couple of
textboxes on the page and a couple...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
