Installing .Net Compiler on Win2K -- Upgrade Question

I am considering installing the .Net IDE and Compiler on my Win2K
system. However, a friend tells me that since I have Win2K SP3, the
..Net installation software will, in essence, insist on first upgrading
my system to SP4. Is this correct?

This is a problem, because I've found in the past that with SP4
installed, Win2K runs slow as a sloth. (I had to rebuild my system,
sticking with SP3.) So, please advise if this is, in fact the case,
that the SP4 "upgrade" is unavoidable with .Net on Win2K.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

No that will not happen. Remember the IDE for Framework 1.1 came out before SP4 or at least very close to each other. Check the Readme first for the install of Visual Studio.NET. If what you think is true it will say so in there under System Requirements.

Recently I replaced Win2k with Linux on my desktop computer. Using mostly multi-platform software I thought this would be easy. It was not as easy as expected getting wxPython to work. There seemed to be no SuSE RPM so I installed from source. Here are my steps (gtk 2.4 was already installed): - Built wxWidgets (.configure --enable-unicode) - Built wxPython (python setup.py install) error: "you should use wx-config program for...

One of my development PC's died, and I need to have legacy VS and VS.Net installed at the same time. On the now dead PC, I had VS6 installed prior to installing VS.Net. This worked just fine. On my working PC, I already have VS.Net installed, but not VS6. My question, will installing the older VS6 with VS.Net already installed give me problems with VS.Net. Or should I first remove the VS.Net, install VS6, then re-install VS.Net? Gerald

All, I was working at a client's site when I installed Visual Basic 6 on a machine at their request. Existing applications on this machine had specified version 4.0 of the Jet OLEDB provider in a data source string in their config files. After installing VB 6, they stopped working, producing the error "3220: The supplied provider is different from the one already in use. Changing their configuration files to specify version 3.5.1...

was having a real mess trying to upgrade v8.1.6 to v8.2.3 (aka FP10). so i just deleted the failed 8.1/2, and did a fresh install of 8.2, having been assured by our DBA types that 8.2 could find the files left from the 8.1 databases. these are testing databases, so they aren't critical, but it would make life simpler if that could be done. looking through help, here, and the UDB on-line library, doesn't come up with any syntax. nor have...

I tried using the Visual Studio setup and deployment wizard to create an msi to install the .exe, config and .dll resource files from my winxp deve box onto a Windows 2003 server. I don't have access to that machine through vpn, I can't remote desktop. I have to send something to a colleague who has to do the installation. So far I have failed every attempt, either with the msi or by simply zipping up the bin directory files. Could...

Now that we know WinFX will be branded as .NET 3.0, will Microsoft port WinFX to Windows 2000? Or we will have to wait for 4.0? (or maybe it will be 2.1?) Anybody heard anything?

Hello, I recently updated a web service project that was originally created by a consultant with Visual Studio 2003 with Visual Studio 2005. The .MSI file told me I needed the 2.0 framework, so I installed it. When I converted the project I was warned that ASP 2.0 would be needed. I tried to install the webservice on a test webserver running Win2k. It has ASP 1.1 installed. I looked on the Microsoft site and although

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
