installing a vb.net console app from winxp onto Win2K3 server

I tried using the Visual Studio setup and deployment wizard to create an msi
to install the .exe, config and .dll resource files from my winxp deve box
onto a Windows 2003 server. I don't have access to that machine through
vpn, I can't remote desktop. I have to send something to a colleague who has
to do the installation. So far I have failed every attempt, either with the
msi or by simply zipping up the bin directory files. Could someone point me
to some good instructions so I quite wasting the time of my colleague who
keep emailing me the exceptions and the latest one was the last straw;

C:\Compass\LPEC onsole\bin.greg \bin>leadproces singcompassserv ice
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
C:\Compass\LPEC onsole\bin.greg \bin>

Is it absolutely necessary for me to go through the hours of creating a
Virtual PC image with the Win2k on it for testing. I was hoping there was a
reliable method.

Thank you,
-Greg

I'm installing win2k3 standard edition on VirtualPC right now. And then
..net 2.0 runtime. Then what next? Do I have to use Wise or Installshield?
Can I use XCOPY from my host PC into the Win2k image to transfer the exe and
other runtime files? thanks. -greg

Hello, Does anyone know how I can read the ASCII text from a console window (from another application) in WinXP? It doesn't sound like a major operation, but although I can find the window via pywin32, I haven't been able to do anything with it. I'd really just like to get the window text into a string. By "console window", I mean the sort of thing that comes up when you run "command" (although this particular one is for the game...

One of my development PC's died, and I need to have legacy VS and VS.Net installed at the same time. On the now dead PC, I had VS6 installed prior to installing VS.Net. This worked just fine. On my working PC, I already have VS.Net installed, but not VS6. My question, will installing the older VS6 with VS.Net already installed give me problems with VS.Net. Or should I first remove the VS.Net, install VS6, then re-install VS.Net? Gerald

I attempted to install MSDE on a WinXP machine(server) today. I installed from the command prompt as follows:- >setup INSTANCENAME="NetSDK" SECURITYMODE=SQL BLANKSAPWD=1 Before I get 'blasted', I know that I 'really shouldn't' use a blank sa pswd but.......I did :-) I then detached (sp_detachdb) an existing db from another machine. Moved it onto the new instance and reattached it.

I have a VB Script that I call from my ASP page. One of the first things it does is: 'Launch Access Server.CreateObject("Access.Application") 'Open DB 'Preview Report This works fine on IIS 5.x, on Windows XP. But when I try this on Windows 2003 (with the latest IIS that ships with it), it does not work. I can see in the IIS Log that the Server.CreateObject failed.

Hi, I have a small application which uses a connection to a SQL database. Using clickonce I make the deploy folder. Well, the target PC is old (600 MHz, 256 MB RAM, WinXP) but it should be ok for my application. The framework is installed, but while deploying my program, it want to install Windows Installer 3.1 and SQL Server Express. The former has no problem but the latter goes in timeout after downloading and installing up to 100%...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
