Best practice for adding compiled help file?

I'm building a very small vb.net winforms application and
I've created a compiled help file (.chm) with HTML Help
Workshop. I added the chm file to the project by
selecting Add > Existing Item. The item shows up in the
project, but it does not get added to the bin directory
when I compile the project. I right-clicked the chm file
and chose "content" as the build action, but it still
doesn't add it to the bin directory.

I realize I can just manually add it, but I started to
wonder if I was going about this all wrong. If someone
can give me some insight or point me to a resource
regarding best practices for doing this, I would greatly
appreciate it.

Thansks,
Rob

http://www.JavascriptToolbox.com/bestpractices/ I started writing this up as a guide for some people who were looking for general tips on how to do things the 'right way' with Javascript. Their code was littered with document.all and eval, for example, and I wanted to create a practical list of best practices that they could easily put to use. The above URL is version 1.0 (draft) that resulted. IMO, it is not a replacement for the FAQ,...

Okay, this should be pretty simple for those of you who have written several enterprise level web applications: I'm looking for simple concepts to deal with a client re-posting the same data over and over. IE: Adding a comment to a record, adding an item to a cart etc. (hitting the refresh button over and over re-posting the old values) I’m looking for a solution a little more elegant than comparing data values etc. I would rather...

I currently populate my datagrids manually from a codebehind and use webcontrols within the template columns (for check boxes and viewing pleasure eg labels) For performance and scalability... would late binding where I'd just have <%=myVar%> really be a better way of doing things? I always had thought creating a webcontrol and populating from codebehind was more optimized becase it was pre-

I have an app that retrieves data from an Access database. At the moment I have the SQL string as a Const in my app. I understand this is not best practice. I don't want the user to have access to read or modify this string so I don't want to store it in an INI / Text file or in registery. Can someone please tell me the best practice for this. Thanks Mike

I am currently cleaning up an application which was origainlly hashed together with speed of coding in mind and therefore contains quite a few "hacky" shortcuts. As part of this "revamping" process I am introducing namespaces to properly compartmentalise sections of the code into logical units. What I am speciffically trying to get right is the dependency tree for header files to reduce compile time and simplify the code structure. On...

Is it considered best practice to distribute FE databases as MDEs rather than MDBs? Without flaming me for asking the question, could someone please enumerate the key advantages? Also I like to provide my users a mini report writer where the report specs are stored as local data files. Can I do this in an MDE - e.g. have local data files for the report writer spec but no queries, forms or report changes? Thanks.

Hi All - I have a question that I think MIGHT be of interest to a number of us developers. I am somewhat new to VIsual Studio 2005 but not new to VB. I am looking for ideas about quick and efficient navigating within Visual Studio 2005. Let's say your project (or solution) has dozens of forms and hundreds or even thousands of routines. Two Questions: 1) BUILT-IN to Visual Studio 2005. What ideas do you have to quickly

In VB6, we created a number of ActiveX DLLs that all shared a similar interface. The main application would load these in dynamically (late-bound.) This worked well for our situation because we could update the DLLs independently of the main EXE, and performance was not a problem. We want to do the same thing in C# (at least test it), but we are not exactly clear what the best practice is. We would prefer to do something similar, but we...

First, let me say that this question is a rather general programming question, but the context is PHP, so I figured this group would have the most relevant insight. Anyways, this is also more of an opinion based question than one seeking a definite answer. Recently, while maintaining a rather large system. I needed to add an array class member to an object. It was exactly the same as another class member, except that one array stored...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
