I'm making a registration form to be able to log on my site. This is the code for registrating.

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. <html>
  2.   <body>
  3.    <?php include ("connect.php");
  4.     $login = $_POST["loginname"];
  5.     $pass = $_POST["password"];
  6.     $passconfirm = $_POST["passwordconfirm"];
  7.     $result = mysql_query("SELECT username FROM users WHERE username = $login");
  8.      if(!$result)
  9.      {
  10.       if ($pass != $passconfirm)
  11.       {
  12.        echo "Passwords do not match.";
  13.        ?> <br><a href="index.php">Back</a><?php
  14.       }
  15.      else
  16.       {
  17.       $sql="INSERT INTO users (username, password, rights) VALUES ('$login', '$pass', '1')";
  18.        if (!mysql_query($sql,$con))
  19.         {
  20.         die('Error: ' . mysql_error());
  21.         }
  22.       ?> You are now registered.<a href="loginned.php"> Login </a> with your new account.
  23.       <?php
  24.       }
  25.      }
  26.      else
  27.      {
  28.       echo "Username is already taken.";
  29.       ?> <br><a href="index.php">Back</a><?php
  30.      }
  31.       ?>
  32.
I am connected to the database, and this is my registration form, and I have installed a preventure for multiple accounts with the same account name:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. $result = mysql_query("SELECT username FROM users WHERE username = $login");
should give a result when the username is used already and
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. if(!$result){
should perform the action only if you didnt have a result, so you cannot have the same name.
But, you always are able to create a new account with the same name, what am I doing wrong?

I have a Windows service that requests web pages from a site using an HttpWebRequest object. When I try to request a page from an ASP.NET 2 site, I get a WebException with message "The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error." I found a post that suggested to catch the WebException to retrieve the actual HttpWebResponse object for more information. The response returned is shown below. At first I thought this was a...

I've searched google intensely on this topic and it seems noone really knows how to approch this. The goal I don't want clients to give out their usernames and passwords to friends, since the site relies on subscrption fees. Sessions ID's are matched between the browser and the server. So a users can login with same username and password and those sessions are tracked individually. Some suggest create table fields with the session ID...

I'm having trouble creating a simple login page using the asp:login control. I followed some instructions in a WROX book, "Beginning ASP.NET 2.0," and the instructions are very straight forward, but it won't work for me. Here's what I did. 1. Created a new folder named "testlogin" 2. Turned that folder into an application using the IIS properties 3. Created two new web form pages, /testlogin/default.aspx and /testlogin/login.aspx...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
