Document a mySql database

Ian
Hi there,

Maybe this is a strange quesiton but maybe someone can advise.

I have created a database and it is getting larger and larger, I wonder if
there any tools when you can actually document the database i.e. create
database maps and see all the joins and what field has what type, and what
comments assigned.

Basically so later if I decide to go to it, I can check a kind of database
documentation and know exactly what refers to what.

Does anything exist like this? If so what applicaiton can I use to produce
such a thing and read it too

Thanks in advance for any comments

Search for "ER diagram" tools. "ER" in this context means "entity
relationship." These are software applications with which you can
design a graphical diagram for a database schema. Some of these even do
"reverse engineering" and produce a diagram from an existing database.

There are quite a few such products on the market. For example, here's
a query that shows a few in MySQL AB's catalog of 3rd party products for
MySQL:

http://solutions.mysql.com/search.ph...t=92&q=diagram

In a pinch I have also used Microsoft Office to design diagrams by hand.
In PowerPoint, you can place boxes and connect them with "rubber band"
lines that stretch as you move the boxes around. But this is laborious
to maintain, and has no integration with your database.

Bill K.

phpmyadmin can do that, and produce the output as pdf.

Hi Ian,

please feel free to try our CASE Studio 2.

http://www.casestudio.com

It allows you to generate very detailed report of your MySQL database.
You can generate RTF as well as HTML report. Moreover, you can affect
the generation via the internal Templates Editor.

Hi, I would like to upload office-document (doc, xls, ...) using a form to a website (apache, php, mysql) in a specific directory and if possible insert it into a table (MySQL-db). Is this possible. If yes, how ? You don't have to explain it in detail, a link to a website or online manual or example is fine. Thanks,

Hi All, I need to create a simple document library - basic features to include the users being able to select a category / sub-category and view a list of files / descriptions that match the selection and then to be able to download the files as necessary. There would also need to be a simple admin function to allow the admin to upload new files / descriptions. A seach function would be nice but not essential.

Hi folks, I have been mulling over an idea for a very simple python-based personal document management system. The source of this possible solution is the following typical problem: I accumulate a lot of files (documents, archives, pdfs, images, etc.) on a daily basis and storing them in a hierarchical file system is simple but unsatisfactory:

I'm an Access user, and I'm trying to learn MySQL and then PHP so I can make some web databases. But it just isn't clicking. I've followed some tutorials, and picked up a book, but just getting to square one has been a pain. I can follow the tutorials and get to the point where I can make tables and stuff, but I don't know how I got there, or what to do if something changes that makes it different than the tutorial. MySQL doesn't seem...

Hi all, I have a system which allows users to enter a message on a (PHP) website. This message is then put into a (MySQL) Database. A perl script then picks up the message and creates an XML document. The webpages, database and XML are all UTF-8, however every now and then I get an error in the XML parser that tells me I have an invalid token. This occurs when the message contains particular characters, although I don't

Hello everyone, This is my first attempt at getting help in this manner. Please forgive me if this is an inappropriate request. I suddenly find myself in urgent need of instruction on how to communicate with a MySQL database table on a web server, from inside of my company's Access-VBA application. I know VBA pretty well but have never before needed to do this HTTP/XML/MySQL type functions.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
