Linking field in MySql table to Access database

2 New Member
I run a website selling cartridges. My stock on the website is in a MySql database. My accounts package and invoicing software runs on an Access database. In my website databse there is a table called products, on my accounts Access database there is a table called items. I am trying to link certain fields in MySql database with certain fields in Access database. The reason for this is so when I update the price in the accounts database (access) it automatically updates the price for the website database (MySql)

I have managed to link the tables but it does not give me an option to pick certain fields from the linked table. I am VERY new at this database programming so please bear with me but I really need some help as it is driving me mad.

Hi. Welcome to The Scripts.

Could you show us what you have done so far?
My Access skills are a little rusty (to say the least), so it will help to see what you are doing.

Well, I have opened my accounts package which has a table called items. This holds all the fields like product name, price, cost, mark-up etc. In MySql database there is a table called products. In this there are fields called product code, price, cost etc. The fields dont line up as the MySql database has more fields than the access one and the names are different. I cannot re-name any field as this would cause the program to stop working.

I created a linked table in access but it brings over all fields, thus making it read only. When I link to the MySql database table, it does not prompt me for which field I need. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your offer to help.

I have a win 2000 database of autographs and scanned photos. They are in the SAME directory. In the table, my "ImagePath" text field shows JUST the image name (i.e. "blank.jpg"). I have an image field that links to the ImagePath field. But it does not display in the form. I go in and delete the image field and add it back in and link it to the "blank.jpg" file (its a dummy jpg that says "Not Avail"). Then I make sure it is linked and not...

I need to import data from 720 csv files into an Access database so I can do some editing prior to loading into a SQL Server. These files came from data output from a mainframe on a monthly basis. There are 15 files created each month with each file containing specific data. What I started to do is store the files by year and then by month so I new when the data is based on. I have linked the table to the database and them append the...

Hi, I am working on a genealogy form. The only table (so far) lists everybody in the family, one record per person. Each record has an autonum ID. The parent form (frmMainForm) displays the data in each record, which includes the ID of the father and the mother (who also have records in the table). One record per form. I have a Tab Control in the form, and in one of the tabs I have a subform (sfmSiblings) in which I wish to list...

This is my first project linking an MS Access (2003) front end to a MySQL back end. I've created and populated several tables in the MySQL database. I can read/write all of them except one from my Access front end. On that one, I get a 1064 error whenever I try to change a value. In the simplest case, I'm just changing a 0 to a 3 directly in the table. (This field is a float, which Access sees as a single, but I get the same result when I...

I have the task to set up an application at work, using MS Access as a front end to a MySQL database. This will be done using an appropriate ODBC driver, and linking the MySQL database to Access. My question is whether it is possible to set something up so that when linking to the MySQL database, the user name which is used for the MySQL connection is taken as the user's Windows ID. If so, then I can set up users and access grants in MySQL...

Hey Bytes, The website I'm working on is coming along just fine, and I'd like to thank all of you PHP folks who have been helping me out. I'm almost done with the coding! I'm trying to get the data-basing code finished with. I've got my products, with lines of text next to it that serve as descriptions. With each of those entries, I have images. I've implemented the code for displaying the text, and I've also implemented the code for the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
