MySQL User Priviledge problems

I currently am using FreeBSD 5.3 with Mysql 4.1 for some testing and learing
of both Unix and the Mysql Database. I am having a problem with creating a
new user in Mysql. When I created a new user in mysql the command is
accepted and I can see the user is there through PHPMyAdmin. If I execute
the command mysql -u chuy -p I am prompted for a password and all is well.
If however I execute the same commmand but append @localhost to the username
and use the same password I get an error message preventing me from logging
in. What gives? Any ideas.

Hi All, I am a newbie to MySQL and Python. At the first place, I would like to know what are the general performance issues (if any) of using MySQL with Python. By performance, I wanted to know how will the speed be, what is the memory overhead involved, etc during database specific operations (retrieval, update, insert, etc) when MySQL is used with Python.

hi, i need advise and guidance from experts. Today, I discovered about 1464 tables created in SYSTEM tablespace and the owner is dev_user. As, i read from ORACLE 101 DBA's it said :'System tablespace is a tablespace user to stored objects belong to user SYS only. if, we do not ensure this, the SYSTEM tablespace will : • Tend to get very fragmented • Have potentially severe contention against it and affect performance

Hi All, I'm putting a website together using PHP and a MySQL database. I've been using phpMyAdmin as it makes updating the DB nice and easy. For development, I've been using Apache, MySQL and PHP installed on my local machine but now I'm having problems porting to my hoster's server. To transfer the database contents, I've exported the structure and data of my local DB to a .sql file and uploaded this to my hosted DB using phpMyAdmin on...

Hi, I 'm new to DB2 (from Oracle background) and have some fundamental question. In Oracle, you create user account "within the database" to let user to logon to the database. There is no tie between the unix account (or other operating system) and the oracle user account - you can logon to the server machine dose not mean you can logon to the database implicitly. However, I notice that there is no account creation in DB2 v8 UDB...

Hi. I am a newbie to mysql, cron, and shell scripting, so please bear with me. I have a script that is used for updating an image directory based on contents in a database. The script does the following: runs several queries against different tables in a database; returns several lists of pictures being used in the database; removes any obsolete images from specific directories. The script is bash shell script. The problem is that...

Hello everyone, This is my first attempt at getting help in this manner. Please forgive me if this is an inappropriate request. I suddenly find myself in urgent need of instruction on how to communicate with a MySQL database table on a web server, from inside of my company's Access-VBA application. I know VBA pretty well but have never before needed to do this HTTP/XML/MySQL type functions.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
