"Uknown command" error from mysql_stmt_prep are

I am getting this error message when trying to use prepared
statements. My code is:

/* mysock is an opened MYSQL* connection */

char *querystr = "SELECT * FROM foo";
MYSQL_STMT *stmt = mysql_stmt_init (mysock); /* returns non-null */
if (mysql_stmt_pre pare(stmt, querystr, strlen(querystr ))
{
/* error */
errstr = mysql_stmt_erro r(stmt); /* = "Unknown command" */
}
....

This code is pretty much straight from the MySql manual pages. Am I
missing something?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Running MSDE 2000 SP2 on Windows XP SP3. I have a T-SQL script that is relatively simple (adding constraints, inserting rows, etc.) and short (maybe 300 lines, heavily commented). It's an upgrade script I wrote weeks ago, and has worked fine everywhere. After the patch from last Wednesday. "Security Update for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (KB948110)", I have gotten the following error on two different machines, using a copy of the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
