Currently, I'm running 3.23.51 on Red Hat 7.1, and I'm contemplating
upgrading to MySQL 4.0, but I'm not sure what to expect. I don't know if
MySQL 4.0 is fully backwards-compatible with 3.23.x versions, or if
something is going to break if I upgrade.
What are the main advantages of upgrading to 4.0? Speed? Features? I can go
through the whole changelog if need be, but I'd prefer to hear what actual
users are reporting as far as...

Dear newsies,
My ISP has offered to upgrade my servers from 3.23 to 4.1.
I'm excited by the potential gains in performance, and the ability to
write subqueries, but am wary of any forward incompatibilities. I have
a mass of PHP code with MySQL throughout. I don't relish peeking into
every file and making a determination of 'it should work' by eyeballs
alone.

I'm new to linux and I'm trying to set up a LAMP server using Fedora 4
I installed all the relevant packages and have Apache serving static pages
ok, however I am unable to access MySql. PHPinfo() tells me that PHP was
built using "--without mysql" in the configure command.
Is there a logical reason why they would do this?
Will all PHP packages be built like this - how will I know without going
through an install?

Well, I upgraded to Fedora Core 4 and now PostgreSQL won't start, since
my data files are from a previous version. A little Googling shows that
I should have exported my data before upgrading--news that would have
been useful at the time. I've tried to install a 7.x version, but am
having major RPM dependency issues.
Has anyone figured out how to back out 8.x, install 7.x, export data and
move on with life on Fedora 4? There's quite a...

I'm trying to get mysql working on Fedora Core 4. Actually trying
to start the program mysqld without fatal errors. I posted this message
first on the linux misc group - but no luck so far. Maybe people on
this group can help me out. Sorry about posting to two groups.
The reference manual for mysql ver 4.1 is huge, it's over 1900 pages!
I've tried all day but now I have to ask for help from people more
experienced then me.
Anyway, this is...

I've been installing Python and its supporting packages on
a dedicated server with Fedora Core 6 for about a day now.
This is a standard dedicated rackmount server in a colocation
facility, controlled via Plesk control panel, and turned over
to me with Fedora Core 6 in an empty state. This is the
standard way you get a server in a colo today.
Bringing Python up in this completely clean environment is
a huge hassle, and it doesn't...

Hi guys.
So, I got it into my head this morning that I needed a Linux HTTP server.
Naturally that means installing Apache with PHP and last but not least, MySQL.
I decided to use Fedora Code 6, but after an hour of downloading I decided I wanted this to happen sometime this year, so I dug up an old set of Fedora Core 4 cd's and installed that.
Now, after installing Fedora Core 4, which included everything I needed for my server, I...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
