You download the distribution of Linux you want, I use live cd's, and boot the computer from the cd then if you chose you are able to partition a section of your hard drive to run Linux and duel boot Windows/Linux or you are able to completely wipe the hard drive so it only has linux on it.

Hi friend,
You can very well install LINUX in your system with the dual boot environment.or, you can use vmware(it is a typical installation uses virtualisation)

For a Dual boot,
you need to have atleast 10 GB(im not sure) of disk space.Because you need to install web servers for your LAMP
Choose a custom partition in the LINUX Installation wizard
and create 3 important partitions in the free space
/boot, /swap, remaining for /
for
/boot - leave 100MB
/swap - leave the space of (2*RAM size of your computer)
remaining can filled by /
Thats all.
After this choose all the requirments like webserver..etc

Just installed J2RE 1.4.2 on a Linux server. I am very knew to the POSIX world. I couldn't dig-up much in the docs or via google about the following: 1 - Is there a standard way to make sure users (all, or some) can "reach" java? eg one could presumably create a java.sh or aliases ... Where is the standard Linux directory to put such a script (and why)?

Several people asked me for the following HOWTO, so I decided to post it here (though it is still very 'alpha' and might contain many (?) mistakes; didn't test what I wrote, but wrote it - more or less - during my own installation of Python 2.3 on Fedora Core 1 Linux for a friend of mine). Anyway, HTH, L.

Following all the installation instructions from Oracle, the installation stops after few seconds with no errors. Has anyone seen this problem? And can Oracle 9i EE work with RH Linux 9i? Thanks

Lately, I have been having a bear of a time trying to acquire a Linux driver for my S3/ProSavage chipset -- but that quest is now almost at an end as I have located a noble band of people who are pushing the envelop with S3 and Savage chipset drivers! Though my quest might sound like food for trolls to mock Linux -- hear me out. I think I have discovered part of the message of the new Linux economy. Many of us have criticized the...

I am trying to install oracle 9i on debian. The oracle 9i linux installation manual provides a checklist of pre-installation changes that have to be made to linux before installing oracle. I am new to debian - I have used red hat and sun solaris before. The oracle manual describes how to make permanent changes to linux - for instance, how to set shmmax. The manual refers to unix directories that either don't exist or in a differnet...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
