Runtime Error for text limiting

Hello and thanks for your time.

I'm working with a developer and I'm a little frustrated because when using the Web application he created I get a runtime error. I dug a little deeper and I it appears to be this function noted below. Unfortunately JS isn't my strong point.

If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it greatly.

Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object

This is the function:

function limitText(limitField, limitCount, limitNum) {
    if (limitField.value.length > limitNum) {
        limitField.value = limitField.value.substring(0, limitNum);
    } else {
        limitCount.value = limitNum - limitField.value.length;
    }

The error says it is on the limitCount line.

Here is an example of the function being used on the form:

onKeyDown="limitText(this.form.txtMaintenanceComments,this.form.countdown,1000);"

the onKeyUp is the same

I tested this and it works fine. Post your form markup - there may be a problem in that.
