Real One's Detection Script Strange

Real One has a page to copy on their site that detects if the browser
of a viewer of a page has Real One installed. The page is located at
http://www.expressresponse.com/cgi-b...Company+OR+Rea
NetworksWebsite &headerimg=head %5frealone%2egi f&ems_product=1 121&ems_product _category=6666& query=version+d etection&.x=113 &.y=15&template =sos.html
.. Hopefully this very long URL that I have pasted in directly can be
viewed by you. The problem is that when I copy the page exactly as
suggested, the version information is not printed. The case for
non-installation also is supposed to be tested. I have copied and
viewed this page on four major recent browsers, and it does not work
on any of them. I was very careful to exactly copy and paste from
opening to closing html, as they claim the blank spaces are important.
The code looks very strange, with what appear to be pairs ( and { that
appear to do nothing. I am wondering if they have used a crude
encoding to make the script difficult to modify. I am wanting to
detect RealOne so that I can link to a SMIL 2.0 page if it is present.
RealOne will display SMIL 2.0 on the 5 recent browsers that I have
checked it on. You can use special code for part of SMIL on an html
page for viewers on IE6. However this code does not work on any other
browser, so far as I know, except the slight modifications of IE6 used
by some ISPs such as MSN.

Where did you get the idea that it was a Real One sponsored page?

I did a quick 'whois' and it seems its own by some company called Island
Data Corporation - are you sure they have some relationship with Real One?

Randell D. asks: "Where did you get the idea that it was a Real One
sponsored page?" I went to Real's home page and found the mentioned
page after going through several menus. The page has RealOne and their
logo at the top of the page as well as a sidebar that indicates Real.
Of course they could have a contractor for their pages. The URL given
has a problem. If you highlight everything down through html, copy,
and paste, it will work. I put up a temporary web page with a click on
link that hopefully will work. It is located at the URL
http://www.wtv-zone.com/cwdjrsxyz/aaaa.html . This avoids another near
epic length URL.

Hi guys, I have put together a flexible client-side user agent detector (written in js). I thought that some of you may find it useful. Code is here: http://fotios.cc/software/ua_detect.htm The detector requires javascript 1.0 to work. This translates to netscape 2.0 and IE 3.0 (although maybe IE 2.0 also works with it)

Hello, there is a known problem with Opera and the execution of content shown in <NOSCRIPT> tag. Everythings works fine, if there is only one simple script like: http://www.dr-wald.de/test/Opera-NOSCRIPT.html Switching off Javascript will show the alternative content. Javascript enabled will only show the JS-content, _not_ the <NOSCRIPT>...

Hi, I use a handy little Javascript Flash detection script on a number of sites (copied below). Usually works great, but I just started trying Firefox and it's not working. A few browsers are referenced in the script so I presume that Firefox needs to be added somewhere -- does anyone know how I could update this to be supported by Firefox?...

Hi, We have a database application that runs in a popup Internet Explorer application window. The reason for this is to isolate the casual user from the address bar and the typical IE navigation buttons. The application has a browser test page that displays an error message when a popup blocker is found and opens a popup page stating the...

Take a look at http://www.explorerdestroyer.com/ and view the script used to detect IE. It uses quite a maze of elaborate script that examines user agents and many properties of a browser. Of course some of the detection methods used are not likely to please some users of this group. Perhaps some of you would enjoy seeing if the script might...

I'm very noobish when it comes to Javascript, in fact I wasn't intending to use it at all, but I've got myself distracted by this "problem". I want to use an animated gif as my favicon. This works fine in Firefox, but Opera and IE6 ignore it. To get around this, I started off attempting a browser detection script (I know!) which I cobbled...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
