running .exe program from javascript in IE8

13 New Member
Dear Friend,
I am trying to run a .exe program using javascript from IE8
It is not not working. I thing there are some settings in Internet Explorer 8 to allow execution of .exe. Please let me know. Also one more thing there are some ActiveX scripts, how to allow IE8 to run ActiveX without prompting.

you might get that to work only on a local machine - for plain security reasons ... you cannot set security relevant settings on other machine's browsers without permission of the user ... so the prompt will hopefully always occur for such things. so are you trying that for a local machine?

in this case you might try something like this:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. var WshShell = new ActiveXObject('WScript.Shell');
  2. WshShell.Exec('foo.exe');
you might have an additional look here for the docs of the WSH ...

Hi all, I'm new to C. I have successfully written a small C program that acts as a "wrapper" around cgi scripts. These scripts perform admin tasks such as backing up etc. Obviously, The need for the "wrapper" was to get the scripts to run with "root" privileges. So far so good. I simply create a "URL shortcut" that some staff can double-click on to initiate the process. However, because I am creating these automated tasks for...

Hi, I am using system.diagnostic.process with the intention of running a program to communicate with a unix box: The program is "PuTTY", running from a batch script. I know it works because if i manually trigger the batch, the results can be seen on the unix side. Running the batch script from an .aspx page however makes the process

Hi, How do I pick up a running program and bring it up front when I click it's shortcut, instead of starting a new copy of it? I know how to block by using CreateMutex, but how to activate the first one? Thanks for a tip! Thomas

Hi, My CSharp program, when I run from the local drive it can create/modify registry. However running the program from a network drive, gives RegistryPremission error. I don't belive that just by running the program from a network drive, the program will try to access the registry of the network machine. Here is the code snippet: RegistryKey rk =...

Hi, I have a program which will continue to run for several days. When it is running, I can't do anything except waiting because it takes over most of the CUP time. Is it possible that the program can save all running data to a file when I want it to stop, and can reload the data and continue to run from where it stops when the computer is free ?

Hello, I am writing an add-on using vbnet/c# that runs inside a Sap B1 application. I need to be able to change the input language (little blue white icon on the system tray) on certain occasions. The add-on is basically an exe that runs in a different thread from the main sap program. Using code like:

I have a long-running program that has lots of net connections open on separate threads. I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to finish (each run takes maybe an hour) and although I'm logging various info that I can monitor as the run progresses, it would be cool to be able to actually poke around the program's data while it's running. I'm thinking of adding a "console" thread that would basically be a read-eval-print loop that I...

"The heap grows and the stack decreases, both approach towards each other, if they crosses each other, program crashes" I have read this at a number of places but am confused in it. Each running program/process has its own stack, and a heap too? Heap is separate for each program or common for n number of processes?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
