Kindly Sir or Madam;

I am writing to express my grave concern over the new proposal for
EMACScript to replace current ECMA scripting (i.e. JavaScript) as the
new standard for web scripting.
One word 'weird' !

However, "his" <http://cjshayward.com/etc/maze/is an interesting
diversion, indeed. Too bad it is written in Java and not this
fascinating EMACScript he is talking about.

Prototype.js was written by people who don't know javascript for people
who don't know javascript. People who don't know javascript are not
the best source of advice on designing systems that use javascript.

Hello. I have decided to look again at Java after a *really* long break. While browsing through the Swing tutorials , I noticed that the basic skeleton of the demo applications had something new. There is now a concern with thread-safety which is illustrated by the use of the SwingUtilities.invokeLater() method for the GUI manipulation code. In the demos, the private static method which is responsible for setting up the GUI...

Good day everyone, I have produced a patch against the latest CVS to add support for two new formatting characters in the struct module. It is currently an RFE, which I include a link to at the end of this post. Please read the email before you respond to it. Generally, the struct module is for packing and unpacking of binary data. It includes support to pack and unpack the c types: byte, char, short, long, long long, char, *, and...

Comments re these three related, proposed CSS 3 additions? 1. Add 'text-transform:time', which would transform text in the format hours:minutes:seconds (24 hour clock) to the local format for displaying the time, e.g. <span style="text-transform:time;">23:15</span> might be rendered as 11:15PM or 23:15. 2. Add 'text-transform:date', which would transform text in the format year-month-day to text in the local format for displaying the...

http://htmatters.net/htm/1/2005/07/evaling-JSON.cfm This is more or less in response to Mr Crockford's admonition a few months ago, "fork if you must". Ironically, although in that usenet post he calls what I am suggesting "brittle", his own Javascript JSON parser is not valid JSON, but rather conforms to my proposed variation on JSON!! With an identifier prepended to the front of the JSON block, and function literals as values: see...

The Python slice type has one method 'indices', and reportedly: This method takes a single integer argument /length/ and computes information about the extended slice that the slice object would describe if applied to a sequence of length items. It returns a tuple of three integers; respectively these are the /start/ and /stop/ indices and the /step/ or stride length of the slice. Missing or out-of-bounds indices are handled in a manner...

Anyone who has taken a look at the online FAQ today may have noticed that I have updated it. The majority of the changes are the updating of broken links and the implementation of that extensive suggestions for re-wording provided by Michael Winter. Other changes are listed below. Fore those interested, a zipped snapshot of the entire FAQ and notes, as it now is, is available at:- <URL:...

I would like to champion a proposed enhancement to Python. I describe the basic idea below, in order to gage community interest. Right now, it's only an idea, and I'm sure there's room for improvement. And of course it's possible there's some serious "gotcha" I've overlooked. Thus I welcome any and all comments. If there's some agreement that this proposal is worth further consideration then I'll re-submit a formal document in...

The list below has the current section number, proposed anchor name, and then the current title of that section. Some make sense, some don't. There are a few that don't have proposed anchor names yet as I couldn't come up with a decent anchor name. Some anchor names are duplicated (#ajax is one), where the idea would be to combine those entries into one entry. Any proposed anchor name changes, thoughts, or ideas are welcome. The major...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
