I'm a new Oracle user.
I've installed Oracle 9i on a Linux RedHat machine V9.0 and it's running.
I took a Windows XP machine and installed the Oracle client on it along with
PL/SQL developer from All-Around-Software.
I try to connect and I get an error message ORA-12545 "Connect failed
because target host or object does not exist".

What's the difference between "Run-Time Client" which I received with
DB2 Developer's edition (used in Workgroup Server Edition for Windows)
and "Redistributible DB2 Run-Time Client Lite" available on IBM's web
site?
The problem concerns developers working for me, each of whom insist

I installed CR 10 to my .NET development machine and upgraded an application
to using CR10. Now the clients running this application cannot run CR
reports.
Because all clients run the app from a network share, I would like to know
if it's possible to copy the necessary CR10 files to the app's folder to
allow them to run CR10 instead of installing the application at every client
machine.
If this is not possible, what's the procedure to...

Please note this is NOT a rant or complaint! And yes, I'm over-simplifying,
but intentionally. Here goes...
With ASP.NET Web applications I like that I can access data from anywhere
without installing anything on the client (but I hate HTML and markup in
general and it's limitations, the request/response model, state management,
etc).
AFAIK, Smart apps or smart clients or whatever we call them are simply
variations of Web applications...

I'm planning to buy a new development laptop, and I would like to buy an
AMD, Dual Core,-bit
But none of my clients has an AMD, most an Intel Pentium 3.
Will the fact that my applications will be compiled on an AMD, Dual Core,
64-bit have any influence on the prestations? I thought there was a way to

Hi,
I am using an asynchronous socket server to allow comms between multiple
clients and my server. I know how to obtain the IPAddress of the client
(network device) as shown below :-
string sensorIPAddress =
((IPEndPoint)handler.RemoteEndPoint).Address.ToString();
but what I would like to obtain is the physical/MACID of the client.

Hi there,
I wrote a short python script that sends an email using python's email
module and I am using Python 2.3.5.
The problem is, that umlauts are not displayed properly in some email
clients:
+ On a windows machine running thunderbird 1.0.2 umlauts are displayed
properly.
The email header contains "Content-type: text/plain; charset=utf-8"

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
