Javascript drop down menu getting cut off by swf in IE

1 New Member
I have a Javascript drop down menu in an html page which views fine in Safari & Firefox, but in IE the drop downs are cut off by the swf elements on the page which they appear over top of fine in the other browsers. I have tried putting the swf elements on another layer and changing the Z order, but that doesn't work either. Any suggesetions? Do I need to change the menu to a swf too?

This is a problem with IE6. All windowed controls appear above DHTML elements. You will need either hide the swf (easy, but not elegant) or use iframe shimming (more difficult, but better) when the menu appears.

I am accumulating over 80 pages per day into an archive that I will need to be able to present sequentially to viewers. Using html to viewing a page, then click on back to return to my archive index is so awkward it is not useful for my presentations. Can javascript be used to create a powerpoint like presentation of html files (with gif hyperlinks)sequentially from html page to page? Is so, could someone suggest where I could find a...

I have an old web application I did where browsers with dynamic capabilities received a drop down menu on the top of the page and a fold out on the left hand side of the page and non-dynamic browsers received two static menus. This was done via server side detection of browser capabilities and branching the application. Over time needless to say the capabilities between the dynamic and static sides got seriously out of whack. Now the...

Hello, My ASP code creates an ADO recordset object on the server. Later on the same page, I have a javascript code snippet that I use to dynamically populate a drop-down box based on choices made in another drop-down box. Can this javascript (or a server-side equivalent) access the recordset object? --Eric

I have an javascript made menu and some forms with the dropdown element. When the menu opens and scrolls down the drop down is displeyed over the menu and obscures the menu choices. I have this problem only in IE, in firefox it works ok. Is there a solution to this problem? I tried to hide the drop down when the menu opens but sometimes the menu covers only a small part of the drop down, but enough to obscure the menu choice. I would...

http://www.JavascriptToolbox.com/bestpractices/ I started writing this up as a guide for some people who were looking for general tips on how to do things the 'right way' with Javascript. Their code was littered with document.all and eval, for example, and I wanted to create a practical list of best practices that they could easily put to use. The above URL is version 1.0 (draft) that resulted. IMO, it is not a replacement for the FAQ,...

Hello, I am not at all experienced in Javascript so please bear with me. I'm trying to create a drop-down menu that will work in IE, and trying to use some Javascript code that I got from here. It is supposed to make the menu show up by mouseover. Unfortunately nothing happens (no error codes either) - I don't see the menu when I roll over the title with the mouse (although it works in Firefox, so I know the problem is with the IE-specific...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
