Strange Firefox and IE work

Hello,

I have the following algorithm

1. Show message DIV

2. Long Loop Function

3. Hide message DIV
Opera shows DIV well. Firefox and IE don't show the DIV.
If to rewrite the algorithm like this Firefox and IE will show DIV

1. setTimeout(Long Loop Function,500)
2. Show message DIV

I also tried to debug the first algorithm in Firebug, and in step by
step mode I see that Firefox shows the DIVs.

Is it standart behaviour? What prevents browsers from showing the DIV?

Yes, that's expected from graphical user interfaces in general.
While script or other code is running, the GUI doesn't get any
CPU cycles to update the display.

Hi! I'm trying to setup up a web page that will eventually be hosted but I want to develop it locally. It will use PHP to hit a MySQL database. So I have a local database created. I installed PHP and Apache. Next I thought I would do some basic PHP tests as I don't know anything about PHP or Apache. So here is where my snag is. 1) I can execute at the command line: who@where:/var/www/htdocs$ php -r 'echo "hiya\n";' hiya

I have two applications that I wrote that use asp and javascript source files. Recently both of these applications starting acting strange on my test box. Image icons will randomly stop showing up and any javascript that I use a src file with <script language="javascript" src="mytest.js"></script> ) returns random errors. Javascript on the page itself works fine. If I click f5 multiple times I will get different results. I am...

Hi! Here's a followup to my earlier post http://tinyurl.com/dthhs (Full URL: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.lang.javascript/browse_frm/thread/dfff447eb6e5afd7/) In the code below, I've used lists to implement a drop-down menu, and it works well in IE, but is sort of bugg in NN/FF. You'll notice that when moving right down the list to the last item ("Asia"), the list will sometimes fail to collapse, if you exit fom the...

I am having a strange problem with field verification in a form. The JavaScript below works just fine in Firefox but in IE. "license" is a pull-down list and "requiredDiscount" is a text field. When license is "Freeware" and requiredDiscount is "N/A", in IE (but not Firefox) you get the message "For trialware you must enter a valid discount". It seems that in IE "this", the form, is not set. I also tried using "document.form" instead of...

I have some asp pages with a multipart form (for file uploading), some text inputs and some submit buttons duplicated on the top and bottom of pages. If I insert into a text box a text from Microsoft Word with characters like ’ “ ” (apostrophe and quotation marks produced by Word's automatic character substitution) and press one submit in the top of page, IE produces incomplete post data. In fact the first field of post data that...

Alright, so here's the problem. I define a global variable in my script and then add methods/properties to it. Everything works great, no error in Javascript Console. But when I refresh site, several errors "variable is not defined" are displayed. What is more strange, the script is still working ! After each another refresh these errors are keep showing, only after I close site and open it again, these errors disappear, but only to next...

Hi Since we have moved our application (.NET 1.1) to a new server a few weeks ago we have seen in the event-logs multiple errors (which in itself is not my current problem, so I no Server.Transfer-Comments). What seems very strange is that each corresponding request shows as user agent "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4" even though the requests come from different IPs from all...

I'm running a python script via the apache ExtFilterDefine directive, it works basically as expected *except* that when I change the script apache/firefox continue to run the old version of the python script until I remove the script completely and then replace it. I.e. my script is called tl2html.py, if I change it to (say) add several lines of output the added lines don't appear on firefox. I can restart firefox and I can restart...

First and foremost, thank you in advance for any attempts to help me out. I am working on a project with work, and it requires I use CSS selectors to locate elements within a webpage. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
