<div> positioned at center of the screen?

1 New Member
Hey guys,

Love the forum. Been browsing a lot, now time for my first post :-)

I'm wondering how to set a <div> tag to be center aligned to the screen, both horizontally and vertically... so it's slap-bang dead-center in the middle of the screen.

I'm creating a floating <div> layer that acts as a pop-up (before I get pounced on by you anti-pop-up crowd, it's not what you think -- it's perfectly contextually relevant to what it'll be used for, and my members want it)... and I want it to be in the center of the screen at all times, even when a user scrolls.

Do you have any javascript laying about that sets the necessary functions for both a center alignment, and a scroll wrapper to keep it aligned at the center?

Thanks! - Lee

Read that article and the view the code of the examples. =]

You are required to use two methods to accomodate for both IE and other (standards compliant) browsers. But the outcome works fine. Of course, this is just for vertical alignment (the hard part). You can use the margin: auto property for setting the horizontal alignment. It's also a pure CSS solution, no Javascript.

A javascript solution:

Ok, the situation is as follows: I defined a <DIV> like: <div id="myid" style="position: absolute; height: 10; width: 10;"><img src="images/object.gif" height=10 width=10></div> This pane is used to move an object around on the web page by a javascript. As long as I define no further <div> pane everything works fine.

Here's what I'm trying to achieve: 1. A <div>, centered on screen, 600px wide and 100px high, with a background-image (also 600 x 100). 2. Text (an <h1> element) positioned with precision inside the <div>, on the image. 3. A similar result in IE and FF... Here's some of the XHTML:

I have had great success with using <iframe> with overflow-y set to auto. I can get a similar look with the <iframe> tag. BUT... In all cases I need to have fixed heights. Is there a way to put either tag inside an HTML <TD> and have the same kind of scrolling effect. This would allow me to fill the screen and have the size of the scrolling box change on resize. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, Please check out : http://clarifysolutions.co.uk/certenroll/ The source is included below. This page is a test, so I can play about with paddings, margins and layouts using divs as semantically meaningless containers for bunch's of other elements - like everyone keeps telling me to make my code standards compliant. This request is not because I want a fix, but because I want to

I am trying to center 2 images concentrically which are z-indexed to lay on top of each other making an image with a border from another image that has a transparent center. I need the images to be horizonally and vertically centered within a <TD> </TD> area. No matter what I do the two image just present one above the other, albeit centered, NOT on top of each other. I originally did the entire page layout in TABLES until I found out I.E. 7...

Hi all, I've written code (in REXX) that takes files in legacy languages (PL/I, COBOL, z/OS assembler, etc) and converts them into HTML in a format similar to what's displayed in the z/OS ISPF editor. A fellow member of the PCG has helped me by creating a bit of Javascript to emulate the scrolling and using Google I've now gotten it into a state where it almost passes the W3C Markup Validation Service. However, the one error, Error Line 166,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
