want to learn enough of Javascript so that I can work with Google Maps API
(http://www.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/). Thanks

JS is a "scripting" language. As with any programming language, there
is a steep learning curve. I learned the little (so far) that I know
by going to the local library and finding books on Javascript. I
highly recommend (as dies CLJ) the book on definitive JS found on the
O'Reilly site. Check the FAQ's.

This newsgroup's FAQ does not "highly recommend" 'javascript: the
definitive guide' by David Flanagan. That book was just the only book
that any of the regular contributors where willing to endorse for
inclusion in the FAQ at all (and some did not want to include even that
book, as it is not without significant faults). Its inclusion in the
FAQ is closer to the assertion that it is the least bad javascript book
available (by a wide margin).

You probably want to learn some of the basics of JavaScript before you
try to learn how to use Google Maps but when you are ready for them
there are plenty of books dedicated to Google Maps. Search on
amazon.com for "google maps".

Hello folks -- I would like a JavaScript tutorial for programmers. By this I mean that I'd like to know the language "fundamentals" /first/ and then learn about the "web stuff". This is because I came accross some articles claiming that JavaScript is, in fact, quite full of interesting capabilities (closures, higher-order functions, anonymous funtions, even object can be supported as in OOP). Can anyone recommend me a tutorial that goes...

Hey everyone, I've written a tutorial to the Venkman debugger for Mozilla <http://www.mozilla.org/projects/venkman/>. It covers all features that I'm aware of, and most importantly, it's written with the "normal" JavaScript programmer in mind. Thus, I've focused on a tutorial form, with clear examples and pictures, so that the user hopefully doesn't get lost. You can find it here: http://www.svendtofte.com/code/learning_venkman/

Hello Everybody, I am writing an interactive tutorial for JavaScript. I created a text box into which the users can input javascript commands. On pressing a button, these commands will be evaluated. It works fine - but won't show any error if the commands are wrong. Is there a way to show an error if the 'eval' command encounters an error?

Hello all! As embarrassing as it is to admit this, I've been designing db driven websites using javascript and vbscript for about 6-7 years now, and I am *horrible* at form validation. To be honest I usually hire someone to do it for me, grab predone scripts and kind of hack out the parts that I need, or just do very minimal validation (e.g. this is numeric, this is alpha-numeric, etc.)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
