Ajax isn't any different than javascript. Generally speaking Ajax is
using javascript, through XmlHttpRequests and DHTML, to generate pages
that send and receive requests and responses asynchronously and only
update the portion(s) of the pages affected, rather than using the
traditional approach of sending a single request and response per page
(a complete page load).

No rocket science here.

Tom,

I think Rob was talking about the article, not your post.

Well, Turbo - Javascript is just javascript. On the other hand, AJAX is
Asynchronous (doing different things on the host and the client)
Javascript (you already know) And XML.

So - in short - AJAX uses Javascript and XML together to call and reply
to the server from the client as and when the client asks to do
something and only then.

I'm creating a simple AJAX library. It's an object that will return an array containing the response text or xml. I'm trying to find a way to assign the response as a property of the object, but from within an inline function. Within the AJAX object: this.xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); this.response = ''; //to contain the response text OR xml var that = this; //since we cannot reference this within the

I just noticed that prototype.js is one of the files in the Ajax.NET distribution - I'm pretty concerned about this. Does anyone know if this is the same "prototype.js" that is not well-liked around here? If so, do you know if Ajax.NET can be used without prototype.js? -- "The most convoluted explanation that fits all of the made-up facts is the most likely to be believed by conspiracy theorists. I am moving my website from my machine to my webhost, and need some help with what extra files I need to include due to the fact that I used AJAX in my site. Everything on the site is obviously functioning as desired when I test it on my machine using Visual Studio 2005. From what I have determined, the files I am forgetting are the JavaScript files from the Microsoft AJAX Library (See "To install Microsoft AJAX Library" at the bottom of...

I have been working on an all AJAX/DOM web site which is set to go live today and I thought I'd share my discoveries with all of you whom have helped me when I have encountered different issues along the way. First, deep linking is not something that a completely AJAX web site should be able to do by it's very nature of everything being on one page basically. So how can a person deep link to something that is on one page? This question...

Hi, For my next project I'm going to need Ajax, so I'm in about to read some books on ASP.NET Ajax. While reading Rick Strahl's blog I stumbled upon jQuery. I've been to the website and seen some examples, and it sure looks promising. However, I'm not sure how it relates to ASP.NET Ajax. Do they complement each other? Or are they concurrent products?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
