Detecting a successful submitting, possible?

Scenario: A page creates a pop up and that pop up submits a form. Is there a
way to detect whether the submitting was successful or not, so true/false
could be passed to the parent window?

The normal process of submitting a form results in the server returning
a replacement HTML page to the browser that submitted the form.
Presumably the server knows whether the submission was successful so it
can include in that page a script that tells the pop-up window's opener
that the submission was successful. In the absence of a positive signal
from the returned page the opener would have not choice but assume the
submission to have been unsuccessful.

Of course it is not a good idea to be using pop-ups at all, using
pop-ups as vehicles for separate form submission, or designing in
javascript dependencies into a system that already significantly
unreliable following the attempted use of pop-ups, but that is another
story.

Say I've got a page - myPage.asp - that expects to see the results of a form's POST operation. If it comes from the form, all is fine. However, if someone were to manually type the address in the address bar - http://www.mysite.com/myPage.asp - I'd like to be able to detect that they're trying to circumvent the form and redirect them to the appropriate page using Response.Redirect().

Hi Maybee a little bit of topic, but is it possible to stay on the submitting page once you've clicked submit. This is to get processing done on page B when you submit on page A, and the page should not change. Normally I use a response.redirect to the submitting page, but that can't be done in one case. Mats PS I've found that one solution is to send Response.Status = "204 No Response" but according to some information that won't work...

Hi there, I' m getting a (0x80040E2F) error, if I submit my form, with blank textboxes to my update stored procedure. The stored procedure expect values, so how can I detect if a form field was empty. I've tried testing to see if the form field is null, blank and to count the characters, but I can't get it working. My SQL table allows nulls, so it's not that. thanks in advance Charles

I'm working on a project to collect web application usage statistics. What are the recommended ways of detecting whether a browser is JavaScript enabled and/or capable? Obviously I can write a script to invoke something on the server, and if it works, then it works. Is there a better way? I'm looking for the least intrusive way of doing it, from a web application point of view. i.e. I'd like to be able to drop this into an existing...

I've spent the last 6 months developing a pay-per-download website using ASP.NET Users purchase documents and then download them. The intention is that users are only charged for documents they successfuly download. My problem revolves around detecting a successful download, the steps I take to handle the download are as follows:

Dear list, In the corporation, we want to know who is using which computer, and do some phone routing based upon this information. When a user log's uses it's account to login, the phone on the desk should also ring on the same desk. When the user leave's / sleeping, we dont want the phone to ring, so we want to detect this also. By using a service i can keep a program running, without irritating the users with icon's / message's at...

Every Python programmer gets this message occasionally: IndexError: list index out of range The message tells you where the error occurred, but it doesn't tell you what the range and the offending index are. Why does it force you to determine that information for yourself when it could save you a step and just tell you? This seems like a "no-brainer" to me. Am I missing something?

When using createEvent, an eventType parameter must be provided as an argument. This can be one of those specified in DOM 2 or 3 Events, or it might be a proprietary eventType. My problem is testing for support of particular eventTypes - the DOM 2 Events Interface DocumentEvent says that if the eventType is not supported, it throws a DOM exception. This makes testing rather tough - if you try something like: if (document &&...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
