I've written a generic sort routine that will sort dictionaries,
lists, or tuples, either by a specified key or by value.
Comments welcome!
import types
def sort(container, key = None, ascending = True):
' Sort lists or dictionaries by the specified key'
t = type(container)

I promised I'd put together a PEP for a 'generic object' data type for
Python 2.5 that allows one to replace __getitem__ style access with
dotted-attribute style access (without declaring another class). Any
comments would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Steve

I'm new to .Net and need to create a generic (free) way to update lookup
tables in SQL Server (using C#) in ASP.Net pages. I found an article at:
http://www.dotnetjunkies.com/Tutorial/0C968B48-44E8-4637-9F19-8490B0429881.dcik
which explains how this can be done but does not supply enough example code
my newbie self to go through in detail where I understand it. So, does
anyone have some example code I could use to accomplish this or know...

I am trying to use the following generic (reflection) class as the
ICamparer parameter for a generic list..but I get the error:
"Unable to cast object of type 'GenericComparer' to type
'System.Collections.Generic.IComparer `1'
My code looks like the following:
List<AccountDB.Queue> oList = getAllQueuesFunction();
oList.Sort(New GenericComparer("QueueName"));

i think c should adapt c++ template standard, as well as namespace. if
so, c can replace c++ in many cases.

How does not specify the sort criteria for Generic.List ??
The way that this is done in C++ STL is to implement operator<(), how is this
done in C# and DotNet for Generic.List ???

I seem to get name collision between the Generic collection SortedList
and C++.NET Framework collection SortedList.
How to resolve? Here are the libraries that seem to clash:
System::Collections::SortedList,
System::Collections::Generic::SortedList,
using namespace System::Collections;
using namespace System::Collections::Generic;
Below is a working version of the generic template SortedList, which

HI,
I'm new to generics. I've written a simple class to which I'm
passing a generic list. I'm able to pass the list and even pass the
type of the list so I can use it to traverse it. It's a generic list
of business objects. I'm able to see that the type is the correct one
in the debugger.
However when I try to traverse the list using the type I can't
compile. The same type variable I've verified as being passed

I am trying to use reflection in a property of a base type to inspect the properties of an instance of a type which is derived from that base type, when the properties can themselves be instances of types derived from that base type, or arrays or generic collections of instances of types derived from that base type.
All is well until I come to the properties which are generic collections, I don't seem to be able to find an elegant way of...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
