Any ideas of some of the good Javascript books that involves graphics
programming:

- to be able to grab an image and move it around on screen (on top of other
images behind it) and drop it.

- to be able to scroll the window pixelwisely, horizontally or vertically.

-to be able to move image including alpha channel (layers)

-to be able to plot a small image anywhere in a window (using existing image
file as small as a point or ball looking image)

-to be able to make a sound effects (plug in?)
-to be able to collision detection if two or more images bump into other
images.
-to be able to use keyboard arrows to move the image (ie. Pacman) around the
maze.
-to be able to do whatever graphics interactive that I can learn in javascript
(not JAVA, too complicated)

*Part* of what you want to learn involves CSS (moving images around)
a good css tutorial can be found at www.w3schools.com
but I just don't know about your image pixel manipulation - that sounds like
its too much for javascript.

What you describe (moving stuff around) is mainly DHTML and CSS, and
this book is the dog's bollocks for that. You will be using javascript
to manipulate the CSS style attributes of HTML elements, so it's not
really the intricacies of the javascript object model etc that you'll be
interested in.

It also contains a Javascript reference chapter which is quite good
enough to get you doing what you want.

Hello Everyone, I just purchased Visual Studio .Net Architect 2003 and want to know what's a good book for begginers to start with. I know nothing about programming whatsoever, but I do have a desire to learn- as obvious with this purchase. So please let me know where I can start and thanks. Also, what newsgroup should I post my queries to?

Could anybody recommend a good Javascript book? I have an okay knowledge of HTML, and can program in C/C++, but I have no knowledge of Javascript. I've had a look at 'Beginning JavaScript': http://tinyurl.com/4v8eh, but it seems to be a bit wordy and assumes no prior knowledge of programming. Preferably, I'd like a book that's easy to read but not overly long, and I'd prefer it to be pretty cheap.

Hi all, During my degree, BEng (Hons) Electronics and Communications Engineering, we did C programming every year, but I never kept it up, as I had no interest and didn't see the point. But now I really want to get back into it as I see a point with GNU/Linux. I want to get my old skills back and write something or help on some projects etc. I need some good books. I used to have one called "A Book On C", but sold it,

Hello, I have a Bachelors in CS and a Masters in Comp. Graphics. In all of my schoolwork, I used C and C++ and thought that I had a pretty good understanding of the language(s). But now, as I really am trying to find work as a C/C++ programmer, I am having trouble on programming interview tests when they start asking about low-level C stuff dealing with memory and binary numbers. Recently, I took a test for a SE position at Intel, which I...

Hello, I was VERY blessed with a Christmas gift of visual studio .net from a man I hardly know who had heard of my plans of software developement. I have some prior exposure to simple scripting language such as javascript and I understand data types etc. (basic programming concepts and procedures) but I don't have any...

I'd like to learn JavaScript while sitting in my easy chair with my laptop on my lap. Option 1: Buy a wireless router so I can access the plethora of online- only tutorials from anywhere in the house. Option 2: Buy a book and try to figure out how to read a book with one hand while using the laptop with the other. Option 3: Find a good downloadable tutorial (either PDF or a bundle of

Crockford's JavaScript, The Good Parts (a book review). This shall perhaps be the world's shortest book review (for one of the world's shortests books). I like Douglas Crockford (because I am a crabby old man too; plus he _is_ smart and good).. But, how can he write a book on the good parts of JavaScript and not mention functions that address CSS & DOM? Weird. It's like
