Astronomy intro page

Hi,

Can someone please advise me what's wrong with this page? For some
reason, half of the time it opens fine and the other half the time it
gives me an error message! What is it's problem?! I have been looking
through the scripts and I just can't see the issue (not that I know
that much about Java):

Thanks heaps for any advice.

The Javascript Console shows 2 errors, and a lot of warnings. Clean up
the code and it may actually work.

It also has the serious issue of doing browser detection for IE and old
Netscape, but nothing for newer browsers.

ns4 = (document.layer s)? true:false;
ie4 = (document.all)? true:false;

There many pointers that this is very old code - 5 or 6 years old? It
could do with an update.

As someone who knows a moderate amount about Java and an iota of
Javascript, I can tell you that they are *not* the same language.

Would you happen to know what those two errors are by any chance? See,
I ddn't write the initial code so wouldn't know where to begin my
debugs, these are public domain stuff that I found on Javscripts.com.

If the cause of the problem is that I have 3 separate routines running
on the same page, I'd be willing to cut back. I have a zoom-fade, a
ticker and the star animations on that page. If it would solve my
problem, I could drop the zoom-fade.

Thanks for any further thoughts.

Mozilla or Firefox's Javascript Console will pinpoint them for your. IE
kind of does if you have debugging enabled.
